The Great Pyramids are considered one of the original Seven Wonders of the World, and they are the only one still standing today. Did you know there are other pyramids besides the Pyramids of Giza? In ancient Egypt, kings were believed to be chosen by gods to serve as their mediators on Earth and become gods themselves in the afterlife. The pyramid complex was built to ensure the king had everything they needed in the afterlife, including a pyramid, palace, and temples. The tomb in the pyramid was filled with furniture, food, and gold. How fascinating!Did you know that the first pyramid was built 80 years before the first Pyramid of Giza? In total, there were around a hundred pyramids, although some were left unfinished due to the long construction time. The biggest Pyramid of Giza is as tall as a 40-story building - impressive, right?

Construction began around 2575 BCE with over 2 million limestone blocks, each weighing around 2 and 1/2 tons. The architect aimed to finish in 20 years, meaning a stone had to be placed every 4 minutes, 24/7, 365 days a year - except leap years. It's amazing to think about how they achieved this feat without modern equipment! There were around 100 pyramids built, with some left unfinished due to the long construction process. The Pyramids of Giza are as tall as 40-story buildings, which is impressive! Pharaoh Khufu's architects used over 2 million limestone blocks, each weighing as much as a rhino. They wanted to finish in 20 years, so a stone had to be placed every 4 minutes. That's some amazing teamwork and The construction of the pyramids required a large number of workers from all over Egypt. Around 25,000 workers contributed to the project, performing various tasks from manual labor to administrative work. They worked about 10 hours a day, but they were housed, well-fed, and living a comfortable life. The builders even lived in a well-organized temporary city with a strong leader. The pyramids were designed to align with compass points and symbolized the rays of the sun. Despite the challenges, the ancient Egyptians found innovative ways to build these magnificent structures The pyramids were aligned using two constellations with great precision. The construction site was on the West Bank of the Nile River, symbolizing the setting of life in the west. The second Pyramid of Giza was for Pharaoh Kufu's son, Pharaoh Khafre. It features the famous noseless Sphinx statue. The Sphinx has the body of a lion and the head of a human, acting as a guardian. Originally painted in red, yellow, and blue, the Sphinx is one of the largest and oldest statues globally.

The limestone blocks for the pyramids were hauled from 8 miles away using sleds. A ramp system was likely used to move and pull the huge stone blocks during construction. The exterior of the pyramids was polished with sand and stone, and topped with a gold and silver capstone. Inside the pyramid, there are three chambers, with the King's Chamber as the main one where Pharaoh Kufu was laid to rest. The interior also features support beams made of granite to ensure stability.

Though the pyramids hold many mysteries and secret tunnels, researchers have studied hieroglyphs in decorated tombs near the pyramids to learn about ancient Egypt's culture. While little robots with cameras have been sent inside the pyramids, there is still much to uncover about their interior. Scientists are now using X-ray scans to learn more without entering the pyramids. The ancient Egyptians created a mystery that has intrigued people for over 5,000 years.
