The Garden of Whispering Serpents

(inspired by Eve, but also Jasmine and Arabian legends)

By GoldenSpeechPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

In the 12th century, in the city of Baghdad, a princess known as Zahra al-Salim lived surrounded by perfumes, silk, and secrets. Her father forbade her to leave the palace gardens — a paradise built for her protection.

But Zahra was curious. Every night, she spoke to a serpent that slithered through the vines, whispering stories of the world outside: markets, deserts, stars beyond the walls. The serpent told her, “Freedom has a taste sharper than fear.”

One morning, guards found the garden empty. Zahra was gone, her crown floating in the fountain. Some said she had run away disguised as a dancer; others claimed the serpent had carried her soul away.

Centuries later, storytellers changed her name, her kingdom, her ending. She became Jasmine, the rebellious princess of legend. But the truth remains — behind every fairy tale of a girl longing for freedom, there’s a woman who was never seen again
