The New Creation

The Old Man

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one-man sin entered into the world and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

Adam was the first man God created. God put him in the garden of Eden and commanded him not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The day he eats of this tree he shall surely die. (Gen 2:16-17).

Adam disobeyed God and ate the fruit even though he was deceived by the serpent, it was counted for him as disobedience and a sin before God. This was what led to the fall of Adam the first Man and the entire human race because all generations of the earth come from Adam.

The consequences of the FALL were very devastating owing to the fact that it led to the following:

1. It brought spiritual death.

2. The connection between the creator and his creation was cut off.

3. Life itself lost its essence and meaning.

4. Sin became the nature of Man.

5. Man lost the glory of God.

The FALL also affected three important aspects that makes the totality of a man which is:

1. Spirit – the Spirit died.

2. Soul – the Soul become sin conscious and rebellious.

3. Body – the body become corrupt and worldly with all its lusts.

The effect of the fall was such that the old man is damaged beyond repair. The only remedy available is for the old man to be reborn or born again into a new man.

The New Man

John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”

The new man is the man that is born again or reborn from the old sinful nature to a renewed man in Jesus Christ. We call the Man that is in Christ a new creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

A person is a new creation if only that person is in Christ Jesus. Christians are the new creation every other person that is not in Christ Jesus is still in the old man and shall not be referred to as a Christian.

A person who is in Christ is one who has satisfied two conditions:

Confessed with the mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Believes in his heart that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead.

Romans 10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Being a new creation in Jesus Christ must transform the totality of the Man from the old man to the new man. This includes:

1. Spirit – the Spirit is made alive. (Colossians 2:13)

2. Soul – the Soul is reconciled and finds peace.

3. Body – the body receives divine life within it. (Romans 8:11)

A person who have accepted Jesus Christ is saved and has received eternal life and should not doubt whether he is going to heaven or not, the believer should have the assurance that he/she has salvation
