The City That Slept Beneath the Waves

Every thousand years, it woke — remembering everything it had lost.

By GoldenSpeechPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

Far beneath the sea, beyond the reach of sunlight, lay the city of Virell. Once a place of music and marvel, it sank long ago when the people wished for eternal peace.

They were granted it — in sleep.

Every thousand years, when the moon aligned with the twin stars, the city stirred. Lamps flickered, doors opened, and the sleeping citizens rose again, believing no time had passed.

This time, only one awoke — a girl named Lyra. She wandered through silent streets, her footsteps echoing through the drowned palaces.

She found the library, where fish swam between shelves of books sealed in glass. There, she read the last recorded wish of her ancestors:

“Let us rest until someone remembers us.”

Lyra whispered their names aloud — one by one — and the city began to glow.

The climax: The others awoke, smiling as they dissolved into light. The city rose to the surface, sparkling under the dawn.

When sailors passed days later, they saw no ruins — only the glimmer of a thousand lights beneath the waves, as if the sea itself remembered.
