The Candle That Never Burned Out
Some flames are meant to guide the living. Others, the lost.

In an old cathedral by the sea, a single candle had been burning for nearly a century. Pilgrims came from across the world to see it. They said it granted clarity to those who stood before it.
Father Lucien tended to it faithfully until one evening, a woman arrived crying, begging for a miracle. Her son had vanished in a shipwreck. Lucien prayed with her, and as they knelt, the candle flickered for the first time.
He saw visions—waves, a ship, a small boy smiling, whispering, “Tell her I’m home.”
The climax: When the woman left, the candle went out completely. Lucien tried to relight it, but it never burned again. Yet visitors still claimed to see a soft glow, as if a child’s spirit kept the flame alive.
