A newly arrived introspective soul rising.

"If you have a bias, let it be towards optimism".

There are writers who begin this literary journey with gusto, with something wonderful to say. Then there are those (like myself) who began their writing journey with what has been called by rather unflattering names, let us name it, finding our 'fledgling wings', little birds just learning to fly.

Birch Tales falls into the first category, the one with wings, which although fledgling-like in the nature of a new beginning, is well beyond the purview or scope of an initiate.

Birch Tales

Surviving off stolen souls and chocolate.

Although Birch Tales only joined in July 2024 and has written four (4) stories, already I feel a harmony with nature within the stories.

Here are some excerpts from this story.

"Any time something positive happens in the life of a young person reckless enough to share it, it is immediately overshadowed by someone’s reminder that it is undoubtedly temporary. Did you have a good time with your friends? Well, congratulations, just know that all friendships are transactional in nature and good people never stick around for long anyway.

Did you find love? You are just a kid, your heart will be broken soon enough and it is foolish to hope otherwise".

"Nihilism is a philosophical belief that rejects or denies the existence of inherent meaning or purpose in life".

"Many see it as an ideology devoid of hope, one that makes life meaningless by denying existence an inherent value.

There is some truth to this definition, but it also has a more positive spin. If life has no inherent meaning, there is nothing stopping us from finding our own. Instead of following an imposed moral code, nihilism offers the opportunity to bring meaning to the randomness of this universe by flowing the moral code instilled in us by our shared humanity".

Read the entire story in her article above, it is really rather enlightening.

The first story written is a nostalgic piece that spoke to my love of knightly tales. Birch Tales subtly fuses the medieval with the modern in this magical legend infused poem.

Your castle has become ruins

Horses now are made of steel

Wish I listened to Kilghagrah

Time doesn’t make all hearts heal

I would pray to the high priestess

But our Old Gods are far gone

Street graffiti of a dragon

Takes me back to Avalon

Legends bring no truth nor comfort

So I take the midnight train

Living, fighting, always waiting

Just a way to numb the pain

I’d stay patient, buy the river

Magic making water dance

Warlock’s honour, no more secrets

Give me just another chance

We would sit there, reminiscing

Round the table with your knights

Dear friend, come back already

Or I might just lose my mind

~~~~~
At this point only two stories had been written. So, Birch Tales is still planting new story trees.
The sun still rose the day that she didn’t
Emptiness lingering in the stuffed summer air
Rose bushes still blooming, not granting
The dignity to wilt under the widower’s glare
He shut down the curtains, solemnly grieving
Ambushed by the world that keeps spinning it’s wheels
And relit the candles, that crackled and flickered
Numb to the sense of his silent appeals
But every next day meant her legacy lasted
And every next day brought her memory grace
I continue to anticipate more wonderful stories from Birch Tales.
