Chapter Two-Function At The Castle

By Marc OBrienPublished 4 months ago 3 min read

Following a beautiful ballet recital, where Gloria stole the spotlight, Royal Kauffman seized the regular postal delivered mail, shifting through it, inspecting contents.

“I hope there is not any warning notices,” RK thought, “teachers, constantly reminding his parents, ‘your son doesn’t say anything’,”

Instead, a colorful invitation addressed to Master Royal Kauffman arrived, requesting his attendance at the kickoff celebration of the Rebooted Sycamore Sapling Castle Amusement Center, an escape resort, filled with winning prize style games and dancing music.

“Wow,” RK seemed impressed, not uttering a noise, despite one glaring detail, haunting the growing boy, ‘who was E.M. Griffen the third?’

Retreating into the private space, where the Music Box Theater resided RK conjured up, Cossegio, his figurine advisor. With a theatrical introduction, the principal dancer appeared, presenting her porcelain glory persona.

“Yes, Master Royal Kauffman,” the fragile relic answered his seductive eyes, then narrated an encyclopedia entry, “EM Griffen better known as the Boardwalk King, obtained fame playing monopoly gotchu, placing ownership claim on everything he touched. Last week EM Griffen bought the Sycamore Sapling Castle in a record deal, transforming the mansion into an Entertainment Center for all ages.”

Picking up the card, Royal Kauffman showed interest, “there is a lot of luring con jobs,” Cossegio commentated, and the opinion statement rendered a confirmation acceptance decision.

A few days later, the maturing youth, respectively heeded all information provided by Cossegio, and still proceeded upon a path towards the venue filled with festive fun. Being a lone soldier in the invasion, RK approached the door, pulling on the string, ringing the bell.

“Welcome to the New Sycamore Sapling Castle,” a gothic voice greeted, allowing the quiet lad passing rights, “doesn’t say much,” the butler style character observed letting entry.

Checking out all the art decorations, RK browsed the owner portrait gallery memorializing all who invested, allowing the affluent a temporary live it up lifestyle and stylish disappearing experience.

Finding the courtyard, RK glimpsed out noticing the arcade style atmosphere serenaded by a big band orchestra. Feeling the formal tidings soothing contributions, Royal Kauffman picked off hors d'oeuvres, from a travelling plate.

“If it isn’t Master Royal Kauffman,” a long-legged giant lady announced, as RK read the badge, Milda Minister, Vice President Director of Floor Operations.

Royal Kauffman stared and did not say a word as the clock clicked away seconds to minutes, “they always said you had that look about you.”

Continuing engaging the crowd, RK took mental notes, a skill he had much success applying. Suddenly, the once empty main stage magically welcomed activity, featuring its new landlord, “Thank you for coming,” a man using a microphone stated, “I am EM Griffen, Every Mortals Griffen, and I would like to cut this ribbon, opening the new Sycamore Sapling Castle”.

As a young ballerina, who Royal Kauffman watched in classmate’s Gloria’s recreational company, perform the honors, the guests witnessed intently, applauding as balloons paraded downward.

Night grew old, Royal Kauffman reminded himself about his youthful age and departed the energetic scene.

Arriving back home RK embraced his humble confines and walked through the darken hallway not making a sound. But before retiring, the student decided chilling, grabbing earphones broadcasting, the Music Box Theater recorded production. Cossegio professionally came out, awakened by the late-night request.

“I thought we were done,” Cossegio replied, not expecting any answer, “was the extravaganza everything you expected from good old EM Griffen?”

Affirmatively, shaking his head, RK sent the message, “well we have a lot of things to hash out, especially, taking people’s money. Calling it entertainment.”

Handling, another one-sided monologue Cossegio continued, “we need a government minister to oversee things.”

Remembering that word ‘minister’ was on the individuals’ name tag Royal Kauffman removed the headset, “where are you going?” Cossegio inquired, “to sleep on it?”

Using mouse like moves, RK let the night signal acknowledge quitting time, knowing exactly who should be appointed the Minister of Creative Culture Concerns.
