Night in the haunted forest. Part 4
The scream.

After a delicious lunch, we relaxed and felt much better. But I couldn’t stop thinking about my encounter with the fox, as if she had come to help us.
Then I remembered the name of the place we were in — Lapiniai. Lape in Lithuanian is fox. This place was a remote village with just a few cabins, now usually rented for tourists like us.

Previously, it could have been a village where people lived and believed in animal spirits, their power, and protection. That’s where the name could come from. I didn’t share my thoughts with the rest of the gang. Everything was already spooky enough. And it was still the middle of the day.
Every perfect day, however, comes to a perfect sunset.

We went near the lake to watch the orange sun setting down behind the pine trees. Light summer breeze, chirping insects, frogs… Pure magic!
“Beer or wine?” asked Tim with a cooler in his hand.
And suddenly, it all fell silent. No frogs, no grasshoppers, no wind — as if all was put on mute. My heart dropped. We looked around. I could see fear on my friends’ faces.
A piercing scream tore through the silence.

We looked around, petrified. All the terrifying camping stories and videos I had seen on social media flashed in front of my eyes. It was getting darker…
