Chapter 1: An Unexpected Meeting
Dira, a talented graphic designer working at a renowned company in Jakarta, has always been focused on her career. At 28 years old, she had achieved many of the things she had long dreamed of. However, behind her success, she felt an emptiness in her life. Her close friends were either married or in serious relationships, while she remained engulfed in her never-ending work.
One day, her boss informed her that she had been chosen to represent the company at an international design conference in Tokyo. Initially hesitant because she had never traveled far alone, Dira eventually accepted the offer with enthusiasm. To her, it was an opportunity to learn, gain insights, and perhaps fill the void that had been haunting her.
In Tokyo, Dira was captivated by the beauty of the city and its welcoming atmosphere. Amidst the conference's busyness, she often took solitary walks, admiring the architecture and local culture. However, during one presentation session, Dira's attention was drawn to a European-looking man presenting his work. The man exuded a strong aura, with blonde hair and sharp blue eyes. He was Julian, a graphic designer from Paris and a speaker at the event.
After the presentation ended, Dira gathered the courage to approach Julian and compliment his work. Julian greeted Dira with a warm smile, and their conversation flowed effortlessly. Despite occasional language barriers, their curiosity and mutual attraction drove them to understand each other better. They eventually decided to have dinner together after the day's conference sessions.
Chapter 2: A Night in Tokyo
That evening, Dira and Julian chose a small restaurant in Ginza, a place renowned for its traditional Japanese cuisine. They sat in a cozy corner, surrounded by a warm ambiance with dim lights that gave the setting a romantic touch. Dira ordered sushi and sashimi, while Julian tried sake for the first time.
Their conversation deepened, touching on various topics from work to personal dreams. Dira shared stories about her life in Jakarta, the challenges she faced in her career, and her hopes of traveling the world. Julian, on the other hand, talked about his love for art and the beauty of Paris, and how he had always dreamed of finding someone who could understand his passion.
As the night grew later, Julian looked at Dira gently. "I feel like I've known you for a long time, even though we just met today," he said softly. Dira smiled, feeling the same way. There was something inexplicable between them, a connection that was strong and genuine.
After dinner, they walked around Ginza, enjoying the cool Tokyo night air. Without realizing it, Julian's hand reached out to hold Dira's. She felt at ease, as if this was meant to be. The night ended with a promise to stay in touch after they returned to their respective countries.
Chapter 3: Back to Reality
After returning to Jakarta, Dira felt something different inside her. She couldn't stop thinking about Julian and the night they spent in Tokyo. Despite living on different continents, they continued to communicate daily through messages and video calls. Julian often sent beautiful pictures of Paris, showing Dira his favorite spots, from the Eiffel Tower to the quaint cafés he frequented. Dira responded with photos of Indonesia's beauty, from Bali's beaches to the forests of Kalimantan.
However, as time passed, challenges began to emerge. The time zone difference made it difficult for them to find the right time to talk. Julian often had to stay up late to talk to Dira, who had just finished work. Meanwhile, Dira felt jealous whenever Julian talked about his colleagues in Paris, especially Isabelle, a female coworker who frequently collaborated with him on major projects.
On the other hand, Dira wasn't immune to the attention of her coworkers in Jakarta. Ardi, a project manager at her office, often showed extra interest in Dira. He frequently invited her to lunch, brought her coffee in the morning, or just chatted with her during breaks. Although Dira always kept her distance, Ardi's attention made her feel guilty because she knew Julian wouldn't be happy to hear about it.
Chapter 4: Doubts Arise
One night, while talking to Julian, Dira heard a woman's voice in the background. A sudden feeling of unease washed over her. "Who is that?" Dira asked, trying to sound calm.
Julian paused for a moment before answering. "That's Isabelle. She came by to pick up some documents we need for tomorrow's project," he explained.
Even though Julian tried to clarify, Dira felt unsettled. She began to doubt whether this long-distance relationship could work. Julian, on the other hand, also noticed a change in Dira. He felt she was becoming more distant and less open than before.
The situation reached a tipping point when Ardi invited Dira to dinner at an upscale restaurant. Although Dira initially refused, she eventually accepted the invitation to avoid disappointing her coworker. However, during the dinner, Dira couldn't shake off the feeling of discomfort. She felt as though she was betraying Julian, even though there was nothing inherently wrong with the dinner.
That night, when she returned home, Dira received a message from Julian saying he couldn't talk that night due to an urgent work matter. Dira felt increasingly distant from Julian, and her anxiety grew.
Chapter 5: A Test of Love
A few weeks passed without any deep conversations between Dira and Julian. They were both busy with their respective jobs, and the intense communication they once had was becoming less frequent. Dira started to feel that perhaps this relationship wouldn't work out. She was tired of constantly struggling against the distance and uncertainty.
One day, while sitting alone in her favorite café, Dira received a message from Julian that surprised her. Julian informed her that he was coming to Jakarta for a major project that would last several months. Dira didn't know whether to feel happy or anxious. She knew this was an opportunity to fix their relationship, but she was also worried that if this failed, everything would end.
When Julian arrived in Jakarta, Dira picked him up at the airport. Seeing Julian in front of her, all the doubts that had been bothering her seemed to disappear. Julian hugged her tightly, and Dira felt comforted in his embrace, as if all the burdens she had been carrying before had vanished.
During Julian's time in Jakarta, they spent a lot of time together. Julian introduced Dira to his colleagues who had come with him from Paris, while Dira took Julian to visit her favorite spots in Jakarta. They even took a short trip to Bali, enjoying the beautiful beaches and romantic atmosphere.
However, even though everything seemed perfect, Dira knew their problems were not entirely resolved. The suspicions and fears still haunted their minds, especially when they had to part ways again after Julian's project was completed.
Chapter 6: Tensions Rise
A few months later, when Julian had to return to Paris, Dira felt her heart break. Even though they promised to keep in touch like before, Dira knew this separation would be more difficult. Julian felt the same way. Before leaving, Julian gave Dira a necklace with an Eiffel Tower pendant. "So you'll always remember me," he said with a warm smile.
However, after Julian returned to Paris, the tension began to escalate. Julian started working late more often, and Dira felt increasingly neglected. She began to doubt whether Julian truly wanted to maintain their relationship, especially as Isabelle appeared more frequently in Julian's stories.
On the other hand, Ardi continued to pursue Dira, despite her efforts to keep her distance. Ardi became more open about his feelings, admitting that he had liked Dira for a long time and wanted to be closer to her. Dira felt trapped between her feelings for Julian and the temptation coming from Ardi.
