Diligence and hard work are the keys to success. Arjun was a very smart boy. He could learn any skill very easily. He was currently studying in the ninth grade. But, he was very naughty according to his age. Whatever he read, he would understand it quickly. Be it mathematics or science, it does not take time to understand it. But, he did not give time to his studies. He would sit to study for a while, then immediately he would remember something else. Then he would leave his studies and sometimes go to watch TV or sometimes start playing games on his father's phone. If nothing else, he would start playing games on the computer.
His mother would say to him, "Son, if you have to play, then go and play some game in the field. At least your health will be good. You do not study, at least pay attention to your health." Arjun passed with low marks.
Whenever his parents asked him to explain something, he would get irritated. His parents started feeling very sad due to his behavior. The half-yearly examination of the ninth class took place. Arjun got only 45% marks. His father tried to make him understand but he was not ready to listen to anyone. He felt that everyone misunderstands him. He was unable to see his mistakes and started misunderstanding his parents and teachers. This is not only Arjun's case. This happens with many children at this age. But, this behavior and thinking is harmful for those children. A few days later, Durga Puja holidays came. Arjun went to his maternal grandparents' house with his mother.
Arjun at maternal grandparents' house
When Arjun's maternal grandfather asked Arjun's mother, "How is Arjun's studies going on?" then his mother expressed regret and said, "Father! I am troubled by his way of living. He neither studies nor plays sports. He remains busy with the computer, phone or TV all day long. He has got only 45% marks in the half-yearly examination. Next year is the 10th class examination. Who knows what he will do?" Arjun, after listening to all this, left from there. The next day when Arjun wakes up, his grandfather is talking to the gardener in the garden. He is telling the gardener which plant to plant where? What to do? Arjun was very impressed with grandfather Sundar Bangwani. He reaches his grandfather and asks, “Nana ji! What are you doing?”
Is gardening easy?
Nana tells him, “Child! I am planting new flower plants.” Arjun says, “The best thing about farming or flower garden is that, plant the plant. Sow the seed. Then after a few days flowers and fruits come out. Nana ji laughingly tells Arjun, “Do you pass the exam by enrolling yourself in school and buying books? Or do you get good marks just by sitting in the exam, no?” Arjun says in surprise, “No!” Nana ji laughingly says, “Son! Fruits and flowers do not come so easily in the same way. Like you study every day. You memorize every lesson after reading it. Write down its answers. Solve math questions again and again. Only then do you score well in the exams.”
Good gardening and the path to a good life
Nanaji further says, “In the same way, be it gardening or farming, just planting a seed or a plant does not bring fruits and flowers. You have to water it daily. You have to protect it from the sun and shade. Weeds, grass etc. have to be uprooted. They have to be protected from insects. Just like your parents protect you from every problem. They protect you from falling sick. They stop you from going on the wrong path. When the plants are fully grown, then the crop has to be harvested at the right time. The crop has to be kept in a safe place. Otherwise, any laxity at any moment can ruin the crop. You can go from one class to another by scoring 45% marks. But, this is not the case in farming or gardening. If you work 45% hard, you will not get fruits and flowers.
Arjun understood that if you also work hard with 90% marks in your life, you will not only pass but your life will become as sweet as fruits and as beautiful as flowers.” Arjun understood what his grandfather had said. Arjun went to his mother and said, “Mother! I apologize to you for the time I wasted. Now I will not ignore your words. I will study on time every day and pass with good marks.” When the result of class 9 came, Arjun passed with 92% marks.
Moral of the story
We should work hard towards our goal every day.
