JUST BE YOU

I used to live in my own world and mind my own business. No social life. I had a very small circle of friends and only shared my private life with a few. I was ok with that as everyone had accepted my way of life. Some termed me as "different" or "unique" and I accepted that.

One day a colleague of mine, from one of my former jobs, mentioned it .... and it hit me. It hit me so hard. "You are too spiritual", she said. "You should come out of your comfort zone and mingle with others." I began to question my values. I know that in my home and families, I am accepted. It's normal. I have my place. But at work place, maybe I need to change?

Just about the time I began considering the need to adapt to my work environment, I got a new job and entered with this changed mindset ... that I should get out of my comfort zone and mingle with others often.

Few years into my new job and I slowly emerged as someone who can talk and entertain people. I began leading as Mistress of Ceremonies and took the lead to break ice with dancing when people were too ashamed to dance. I never let good music go wasted and I broke it down on the dance floor whenever I get to MC an event. It became normal and I was so good at it, and then one of my colleagues mentioned it and it hit me. It hit me so hard. "You are a Christian", she said. "You should stop compromising".

So I evaluated my life again and realized that honestly, we cannot please people. No matter what you do, people will always talk. So I made my own rules and lived by it. I dance when I want to and I keep to myself when I want to. None of their opinions matter anymore. And I am comfortable with that.

In fact, I don't live to please anyone. Neither should you.

Omggg that is sooo true. No matter what we do, someone somewhere would always have something to say about it. So we should just do what makes us happy
