Incredibooks: Pretty Monster

A review of the story “Pretty Monster” by Sheridan Anne

By Joe PattersonPublished about a year ago 3 min read

When your bookworm of a best friend drops a second novel about an unhinged stalker in your hands you have no choice but to read it for your own interest. This story titled “Pretty Monster” by author Sheridan Anne was an absolutely twisted thrill ride of stalking, obsession, seduction and deception.

“Pretty Monster” chronicles the story of a young girl named Kyah who becomes entrenched in the underworld of darkness that surrounds her. She is a tattoo artist who lives a very solitary life, but is surrounded by the gritty environment of biker gangs. Many of the big fish in this underworld have serious interest in our girl Kyah.

Kyah also meets a charming next door neighbor who has a crush on her and has done a great job at captivating her with his charisma. Between her handsome new neighbor and the roughneck bikers who surround her professional life, Kyah is swept up in a web of romantic interest by a group of men who adore her, but also seek to possess her in ways that go against her own autonomy and best interest.

Kyah’s also has become the focus of a stalker who is also a murderous serial killer. This stalker secretly works his way into Kyah’s personal life with malicious intent that grows into affection. When the consequences of this stalker begin taking a toll on Kyah’s life and everyone in it she soon becomes someone she could have never imagined.

This story is a complete psychological thrill ride. The first thing that catches your attention is how transparent the characters seem. I mean you think you’ll know this one character that you were introduced to and figure he or she is pretty much an open book, but in time you’ll come to find that everyone in “Pretty Monster” is not really what they present to you in the beginning.

There are moments of tragedy that hit you with emotional weight that Carrie’s for chapters, but then you’ll find yourself feeling betrayed and you’ll abandon the empathy you feel for certain characters who you thought you liked at one point when you learn who and what they really are.

This book is perhaps the most sexually charged story I have ever read as well. I say that as a fair warning and considering the intensity of the sexuality in the story my assessment of it all is really toned down. The ravenous sexual appetite these characters harbor leads to a place of extreme depravity and it is so intense that it creates a rush of excitement to even the victims who are on the recieving end.

As human beings we are all aware of the consequences of unhealthy attachments, or atleast we think we do. With “Pretty Monster” author Sheridan Anne not only takes a deep dive into the delusion of those who harbor an unhealthy mindset of attachment, but also gives us a look into the minds of those who are on the recieving end of that delusion and how they can be captivated by being the object of someone’s twisted obsession. In turn we see these people become twisted in their own right.

If you’re interested in exploring the forbidden world of obsession, crime, violence, suspense and deception, then “Pretty Monster” is the story for you. It is a great story told from multiple perspectives and in doing so it gives a great insight into the mentality of its characters and where they stand on this shared journey. This story is definitely one for the books (pun intended) I personally would like to see this story turned into a feature film because it definitely kept me on edge. I absolutely enjoyed this stalker thriller. Explore at your own risk if you may, but I warn you: this story is not for the faint of heart.
