Chapter One

Erica:

I sat up like the Undertaker and quickly looked at the small clock on my bedside table. It was 6:47 in the morning.

"47 whole minutes!" I screamed in fright jumping out of bed like a maniac and running straight into the bathroom.

There wasn't going to be any kind of magic trick that I was gonna perform to avoid getting late for my interview today.

"Of all days to sleep through your alarm Erica, it has to be today that you have an interview at 8 on the dot. 8 on the dot silly!" I yelled in frustration slapping my forehead with my palm repeatedly.

A part of me felt like giving up already. I mean how will my potential employer see me now?

My lateness didn't deter me from getting ready as I was set to hit the road thirty minutes later.

I ordered a ride which arrived five minutes later and dropped me outside the office complex which comprised of several high rise buildings.

My wristwatch said 8:19. Just great! At that point, my confidence had flown out of the roof as I started my journey inside the building where my interview was supposed to hold.

I didn't where the interview was supposed to hold so I approached the sweet looking lady at the front desk.

"Hi! Good morning! Please where is the interview holding?" I said in my most courteous tone.

"Good morning! Which department are you inquiring for?" She responded with a toothache-ish smile.

"Ehm.. marketing?" I said in a tone that sounded like a question doing my best to control the urge of an endless eye roll.

"Do hold on while I make a call." She said with that same smile. She was doing too much to impress.

She put the DeskPhone to her ear and dialed a number inquiring for the room number and floor.

"Room 12, floor 8." She said with her now familiar smile still hovering on her face.

I thanked her and made my way to the elevator.

I arrived floor 8 and every door seemed locked including room 12. Did the lady get the wrong information? I wondered as I scratched my head pacing up and down the hallway with nobody to ask any questions.

After like 5 minutes of standing cluelessly I whipped my phone out of my handbag to verify if the interview has been cancelled or something.

Immediately my data connection was turned on, the first notification that dropped was a mail from the company notifying of a change in time as well as details of where the interview was supposed to hold.

Interview is now by 10! Good Lord! I went from being late to being super early.

I found myself a seat on the stairs and decided to wait for the interview.

Time went by fast and the doors were finally opened and the room filled with candidates applying for all sorts of positions.

I was positive of getting the job as there weren't many candidates applying for the position and the interviewer seemed fond of my accent which for me, was a good thing.

"Now that was a miracle girlfriend." My bestie Jessica said over the phone as I finished narrating the day's experience to her.

"Say that twice Baby!" I responded in a bit of a yell causing the driver to gimme a look from the rear view mirror.

He must think I'm some sort of psycho chick. Well, Duh!

I arrived at my apartment to find a familiar car parked outside and a small smile crept up on my face.

It was my boyfriend's car apparently and I couldn't be more excited.

He wasn't inside the car so I just assumed he was inside as I raced in em heels heading for my front door.

Why am I so excited? Cause he was out of town for a good while and him showing up unannounced is one heck of a surprise.

"Girl, you have finally hit the jackpot!" Jessica exclaimed with a silly smirk.

"How so?" I asked playing dumb even after informing her that my boyfriend wants me to meet his mum.

"I mean isn't it all plain as day; he wants you to meet his mom so she could give y'all her blessings to go ahead and get married." Jessica analysed.

"I know that part girl but what if she doesn't like me?"

"It's her loss. And if Franklin listens to her, it's his loss too. It'll only go to prove that he's just a munch." She said throwing her hands in the air with a casual shrug.

"Well!" I said with a playful eye roll.

"Is he still mad at you for wanting to get the job?"

"Nah! I'm sure he'll get over it. It's not really my cup of tea." I said sounding so uninterested.

It might interest you to know that Franklin wasn't in support of my decision to get a job. He gives me literally everything that I want and I feel like that too is a problem. I mean I don't want his mom to see me as a leech or some golddigger.

"Speaking of meeting people, you are going to meet my brother soon." Jessica chirped dreamily.

"In two days, I'm going to the airport to get him and I'd like for you to go with me pleeeeease?" She purred and all I could do was force a smile which made her to pull my cheeks.

"Fine! I'll go with you." I said in surrender.

I hate being put on the spot like this. I hate having to meet so many people in such little time. Gosh!

Jessica's brother in two days, Franklin's mum in one week and my employers in ten days. (Yes people! Your girl got the job!)

***

"Erica meet my big bro Vincent. I call him Da Vinci or Big Vince. And Vinci meet my bestie for life Erica." It was Jessica doing the introductions. The words were floating around and not really registering cause I was lost staring at the Demi god before me.

Why didn't Jessica tell me that her brother is this sexy? I promised I would have braced up for this meet rather than get this surprise thirst trap.

As if that was not enough, he too was checking me and my assets out. Ooh lawd!

I couldn't say a word as I just smiled sheepishly and shook his hand which felt softer than a baby's bum. A nearly melted. It suddenly got so hot that I felt like taking my wig off! Whew Chile!

But seriously though, I know I have a boyfriend and all but this dude right here is totally my type.

The handshake was taking to long to end so Jessica had to moderate the entire situation to restore some sanity into our minds as we were totally lost looking at each other and we did terrible jobs at hiding the fact that we've got the hots for each other.
