"I Rented an Airbnb in Louisiana… The Rules Said Never Open the Attic Door."

"The Airbnb listing was perfect: a secluded cabin near New Orleans for $35/night. The host, ‘Claire,’ had one rule: ‘Never open the attic door—it’s unstable.’ I laughed. What harm could a dusty attic do? But on Day 3, I heard scratching from above. Like something was… learning to walk."

1. The Too-Good-To-Be-True Deal

2. The First Night

"I woke to the smell of decay. My phone showed 3:33 AM. The attic door—wide open. A shadow slumped in the hallway. ‘Hello?’ I whispered. It turned. No face. Just a mouth stretched ear to ear.

I slammed my door. The next morning, the attic was sealed again. No dust disturbed. Claire’s message blinked: ‘Rule broken. Extra $200 cleaning fee.’"

3. The Neighbor’s Warning

"Old Mr. Thibodeaux next door spat when I mentioned Claire. ‘That woman died in ‘98. House sat empty til’ them city folks bought it.’ He eyed my shaking hands. ‘You heard it, huh? The thing that wears her skin?’"

4. The Truth in the Attic

"I pried the attic open. Polaroids covered the walls: 27 previous guests. All wide-eyed. All inside the attic. The last photo was me—asleep, taken that night.

A whisper behind me: ‘Check-out is at 11… or you stay forever.’ I turned. Claire stood there—her jaw unhinged like a snake’s."

5. The Escape

"I crashed through a window. Mr. Thibodeaux found me sobbing in his truck. ‘Told ya,’ he grunted. ‘That ain’t no normal Airbnb.’

The cabin burned down a week later. Police blamed squatters. But I know the truth: 28 photos hung in that attic. Mine was the only one without a body."
