Echoes of the Spiritual Realm

A week had passed since Arnaz and Saliza acknowledged the duality of their existence.

Caught between the physical world and the spiritual realm. Their recent spiritual encounters had left them with gifts and burdens they hadn’t anticipated.

One of these was Arnaz’s newfound ability to hear the thoughts and whispers of those around him.

At first, this ability seemed like a gift, allowing him deeper insight into the emotions and intentions of others. But as the days unfolded, it became more of a curse, especially when it came to his relationship with Saliza.

He could hear her thoughts, too, and what should have been an intimate connection quickly turned into a point of tension.

One sunny afternoon, as Arnaz was adjusting the seating arrangements outside their café, Saliza tended to her herb garden a few steps away. The café and bookstore they ran together had become more than just a business, it was a sanctuary, a space for people to find solace in good books, fresh coffee, and a peaceful environment. But lately, Saliza found herself increasingly frustrated with Arnaz’s constant adjustments to the café setup, driven by the unseen influence of the thoughts he was hearing.

“I don’t understand why you’re changing things again!” Saliza’s voice broke the afternoon’s calm, her frustration evident as she wiped her hands on her apron. “Just two days ago, we finally settled on a new arrangement, and now you’re rearranging everything again?”

Arnaz, caught off guard, looked up from his work. “It’s not about just rearranging things, Saliza. I’m responding to what our customers are feeling. I can hear their thoughts, and they’re not entirely happy with the current setup.”

Saliza’s eyes widened, a mix of exasperation and disbelief crossing her face. “You can hear their thoughts?” she repeated, trying to comprehend. “That sounds… overwhelming. But why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

“I didn’t want to worry you,” Arnaz replied, his voice edged with frustration. “But now it’s affecting everything. I’m trying to balance what I hear with what I think is best for us. It’s confusing.”

Saliza crossed her arms, her patience wearing thin. “Confusing for whom? You’re the one making decisions based on what you hear. How am I supposed to keep up when you keep changing your mind?”

Arnaz sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I’m trying to do what’s best, but I can’t always make sense of what’s going on in my head. The constant input from everyone is making it hard to focus on a single plan.”

A heavy silence settled between them, filled with unspoken tension. Then, in that stillness, Arnaz caught a fleeting thought from Saliza,

Maybe we should separate the café from the bookstore. That way, Arnaz can do whatever he wants without driving me mad!

Arnaz’s face hardened as he looked at her. “You’re thinking of separating the café from your bookstore?”

Saliza’s eyes flashed with anger and surprise. “Dear, that was just a thought! I haven’t decided anything yet. For me, a thought is just a thought until I actually voice it. It doesn’t mean I’m committed to it.”

Arnaz felt a sting of defensiveness rise within him. “But how am I supposed to know that? When I hear these things, they feel real, like decisions already being made. It’s not like I can turn it off, Saliza!”

Saliza’s frustration reached a boiling point. “This is exactly what I mean! I need space to think, to process things on my own. Not everything in my head is a decision or a plan. Sometimes, I’m just weighing my options. I can’t have you reacting to every fleeting thought I have!”

Arnaz's shoulders slumped, a mix of guilt and helplessness washing over him. “I didn’t realize it was affecting you like this. I thought… I thought it would bring us closer, knowing each other’s thoughts.”

“It’s not bringing us closer,” Saliza countered, her voice softened but firm. “It’s creating distance. I feel like I can’t even think around you without you jumping to conclusions. It’s exhausting.”

Arnaz looked away, taking in her words and the weight they carried. “I don’t know how to stop hearing it, Saliza. It’s like a constant noise that I can’t filter out. And it’s making it hard to focus, even on what I want.”

Seeing the weariness in his eyes, Saliza’s anger began to ebb. She took a deep breath, steadying herself. “Maybe we need to set some boundaries. If you’re hearing my thoughts, you need to understand that they’re just thoughts. Until I say it out loud, it’s not a decision. We need to communicate better so that we don’t keep stepping on each other’s toes.”

Arnaz nodded slowly, her words sinking in. “You’re right. I’ll try to be more mindful of what I’m hearing. But I need you to be patient with me too. It’s overwhelming and all so new.”

They stood together in the garden, the tension still present but a sense of understanding beginning to form. They both realized they were navigating uncharted waters, and it would take patience, open communication, and perhaps some trial and error to find a way forward that honored both their needs and their connection.

Over the next few days, they worked on addressing the conflict. Arnaz tried to filter what he shared from his ability, and Saliza made a conscious effort to express her thoughts more clearly when she was leaning toward a decision. They learned to be patient with each other, acknowledging that this new dynamic would require time to adjust to.

Despite their best efforts, the tension wasn’t entirely resolved. Arnaz continued to struggle with the unending influx of thoughts, and Saliza grappled with the discomfort of having her inner world so exposed. The spiritual realm’s influence lingered, creating ripples in their relationship and setting the stage for further challenges and growth.
