Eclipsed Souls: A Tale of Twin Flames
Chapter 18 : The Guardian's Legacy

The cool night breeze drifted through the open windows of their room, the distant sound of waves from the lagoon mingling with the soft rustling of the nearby coconut trees.
Arnaz and Saliza were preparing for their night out at the Cenang Beach Club. The room was dimly lit, Arnaz adjusting his Sukajan in front of the mirror while Saliza, her blue hair shimmering in the soft light, stood by the dresser, slipping into her elegant outfit.
A gentle knock interrupted the quiet preparation. Arnaz raised an eyebrow as he walked over to the door, and there stood Madam Kates, her expression a mix of calm and urgency.
"Good evening," Arnaz greeted, stepping aside to allow her entry. "Is everything alright, Madam Kates?"
"May I have a private word with both of you?" she asked, her voice soft yet weighted with purpose.
"Of course," Saliza replied, sensing the seriousness of the request as soon as Madam Kates appeared.
Arnaz quietly closed the door behind her as she entered. Madam Kates moved gracefully toward the edge of the bed and sat down, her hands clasped together in her lap. Her eyes seemed to take in both Arnaz and Saliza with a deeper understanding than either of them could grasp in the moment.
“I wanted to speak with you about what happened today,” she began. “There is something important you both need to know.”
Arnaz and Saliza exchanged glances, already feeling the shift in the room's energy.
“I sensed a strong presence in both of you from the moment you arrived for dinner last night," she continued. "It’s why I asked my husband, Sir Shakes, to take you to the Dayang Bunting Lake. There’s an energy about you two that goes beyond anything I’ve felt before."
Saliza nodded, her curiosity piqued. "We’ve felt it too, but we don’t fully understand it."
Madam Kates’ eyes softened as she went on, "Sir Shakes told me what happened today, about the cave, how it opened for you both. That cave has been sealed for centuries, hidden from the world, but today, it revealed itself to you. You must understand, that cave only appears for those whose bond is recognized by the island’s ancient forces."
Arnaz’s expression grew more intense, his mind replaying the visions they had seen in the cave. "What does it mean?"
Madam Kates took a deep breath. "As the spiritual caretaker of this island, it's my duty to protect its sacred energy. There is a legacy. One that’s been passed down through my family for centuries. It started with the Spirit Princess, whose spirit still watches over this place. Ever since her time, the firstborn daughters of my line have carried a secret."
She paused, her gaze locking onto Saliza's. "I am the current keeper of that secret. It concerns an artifact, known as the Twin Flame artifact. It has been hidden for centuries, and it holds the key to fully awakening the bond you two share."
"The Twin Flame artifact?" Saliza whispered, her eyes wide with surprise.
Madam Kates nodded. "It’s an ancient relic that contains the essence of your union, the balance between light and darkness. Couples have come here for years, drawn to the energy of the lake. But none have been recognized by the cave, none have been chosen. Until now."
Arnaz took a step forward, his mind racing. "Why us?"
"Because you and Saliza are Twin Flames," Madam Kates said gently. "You are two halves of the same soul, light and darkness bound together across lifetimes. The cave recognized your bond, and the island has called you to fulfill your destiny."
Saliza felt her pulse quicken, her thoughts swirling. "So what do we do now?"
Madam Kates leaned in slightly, her voice lowering with intensity. "Tomorrow, you will retrieve the artifact. But you will not be going alone. Do you remember Manja, my guard dog?"
Arnaz nodded. The massive, gentle dog had been with them since their arrival, but something about her presence had always seemed... more.
Madam Kates smiled knowingly. "Manja is like me. Both of our souls are ancient. Just as I am the spiritual caretaker of this island, Manja is the guardian of the spiritual realm here. Her ancestors go back centuries, and they once served the Spirit Princess herself."
Saliza blinked in surprise. "Manja is... a guardian?"
"Yes," Madam Kates replied. "It is through Manja that the island’s secrets are protected. Throughout generations, my soul and Manja’s, they conveyed the spiritual messages that guide us. But while I can recognize the Twin Flames, I do not know the location of the Twin Flame artifact."
She paused, her gaze intense. "The artifact’s location is only known by Manja's soul. Tomorrow, Manja will take you there. It is her duty to lead you, just as it is mine to identify you. The physical location is beyond my reach. It is hidden deep within the island's spiritual layers. Manja will show you the way."
Arnaz felt a surge of realization, the weight of their mission growing clearer with each word. "So Manja will guide us?"
"Yes," Madam Kates confirmed. "Manja will take you where you need to go. But retrieving the artifact will not be easy. The island's energy will test you, test your bond, your strength, your commitment to each other."
Saliza exchanged a glance with Arnaz, her mind flashing to Lila and the strange energy she had sensed earlier. The weight of Madam Kates' warning hung heavy in the air.
“Thank you, Madam Kates,” Arnaz said sincerely. “We’ll be ready.”
Madam Kates gave a nod of approval before making her way to the door. "Remember, when the time comes, trust Manja. She will guide you where even I cannot."
As the door closed softly behind her, Arnaz and Saliza stood in silence for a moment, the magnitude of her words settling over them like a heavy fog.
Arnaz turned to Saliza, his expression unreadable. "Looks like this night out is just the beginning of something much bigger."
Saliza nodded, her dark almond eyes full of thought. "We have to be ready for whatever comes next."

Arnaz and Saliza made their way outside, where Sir Shakes and Lila’s boyfriend stood by the speedboat, waiting for their night out. Sir Shakes gave them a knowing nod, his quiet approval a comforting presence.
As Saliza glanced around, she noticed Lila lingering at a distance, her boyfriend gently coaxing her to join the group. The jealousy emanating from Lila was almost tangible, her earlier frustration now simmering beneath the surface.
As they boarded the speedboat, Lila’s boyfriend, aiming to break the tension, flashed a bright smile at Arnaz and Saliza. "How about we hit the dance club near Cenang Beach tonight? It'll be fun!"
Sir Shakes, who was apparently his uncle, raised an eyebrow. "You'll need the speedboat to get there, I assume?"
Grinning sheepishly, Lila’s boyfriend nodded. "Only if you don't mind us borrowing it, Uncle."
Sir Shakes waved it off with a light smile. "Go ahead, just stay out of trouble. It’s yours for the night."
Arnaz and Saliza exchanged a glance, knowing that their night was about to take an unexpected turn. But amidst the excitement of the invitation, Saliza’s empathetic sense was alert, her mind already on guard for what Lila might be planning next.
As the speedboat cut through the darkened waters, the hum of the engine filled the air, blending with the soft breeze that brushed against their skin.
Arnaz glanced at Lila’s boyfriend, who seemed more at ease behind the wheel than he had been during the earlier dinner. Breaking the silence, Arnaz leaned in slightly, his curiosity piqued. “So, Sir Shakes is your uncle?”
The young man chuckled, adjusting the wheel slightly as the boat hit a small wave. “Yeah, he is. You can call me Kelby, by the way. That’s the nickname Sir Shakes gave me when I was born, and it’s stuck ever since.”
Arnaz smiled. “Kelby, huh? It suits you.”
Kelby grinned. “Thanks. You know, a lot of people wouldn’t expect it, but Sir Shakes used to be a big deal in Kuala Lumpur. He owns a corporate company there. He’s done pretty well for himself.”
Arnaz raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “I didn’t know that. I always thought he was more... well, quiet, like someone who’s always been part of this island.”
Kelby nodded, keeping his eyes on the horizon as the harbour lights slowly grew closer. “Yeah, you’d think that, seeing him now. But when he married Madam Kates, everything changed. He gave up the corporate world to come here, to be with her and help take care of the island. It wasn’t easy, though. This place... it takes a lot to maintain.”
Arnaz glanced back at Saliza, who was listening intently from her spot near the stern. “What do you mean? What’s so difficult about it?”
Kelby exhaled, his tone turning more serious. “Maintaining the natural beauty of this island is one thing, but the spiritual essence? That’s the real challenge. It’s an expensive job to keep things in balance here, especially since it’s not just about the physical upkeep. Madam Kates is the caretaker, but everything, from the land to the cave, to the energies surrounding the place, requires careful management.”
Arnaz nodded slowly, absorbing the information. “And Sir Shakes appointed you to represent his company while he’s here?”
“Exactly,” Kelby said, his voice carrying a hint of pride. “He trusts me to handle the business side of things back in Kuala Lumpur. It’s a big responsibility, but it gives him the freedom to stay here and support Madam Kates. This island means everything to them, and they’ve dedicated their lives to keeping its spiritual power intact.”
Arnaz’s gaze drifted to the dark water beneath them, thinking of the cave that had opened for him and Saliza earlier that day. There was a lot more to this place than he’d first realized, and now he understood the weight that Sir Shakes and Madam Kates carried.
“So, you come back and forth from Kuala Lumpur often?” Arnaz asked.
Kelby nodded, a smile playing on his lips. “Yeah, every few months. Whenever the company needs me, I’m there. But I always come back here. There’s something about this island... something you can’t find anywhere else.”
Arnaz’s thoughts echoed the sentiment. The island had an undeniable pull, one that seemed to recognize and connect with the souls it chose. He felt it too, the connection to something larger than himself.
As the speedboat glided smoothly toward Langkawi Harbour, Kelby glanced at Arnaz with a thoughtful expression, as if debating whether to share something more personal. After a moment, he spoke, his voice carrying a quiet reverence.
“You know, Sir Shakes loves Madam Kates more than anything. It’s not just about her being the caretaker of the island. Even if she weren’t, he’d still be here, by her side.”
Arnaz listened intently, intrigued by the genuine affection in Kelby’s voice. There was something deeper to this story, and Kelby seemed on the verge of revealing it.
Kelby continued, “Sometimes I wonder if both Madam Kates and Sir Shakes are reincarnations of the Spirit Princess and the fisherman from the island’s legend. It might sound crazy, but my uncle’s connection to the sea is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. He loves sailing so much, like it’s in his blood. He’s at peace out here, like he’s been doing this for lifetimes.”
Arnaz felt a strange sense of recognition as Kelby spoke, thinking of the cave and the way it had summoned him and Saliza. The idea of reincarnation, of souls bound to one another across time, no longer seemed so far-fetched.
Kelby chuckled softly. “It’s just... intriguing, you know? He gave up everything in Kuala Lumpur to live here with her, and even when they’re not speaking about the island’s spiritual side, you can just tell they belong together, like they’ve been connected for centuries.”
Kelby glanced over at him, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
“So, what’s your story, Arnaz? You and Saliza seem... different. Special, even.”
Arnaz’s jaw tightened slightly, recalling the visions from the cave, the realization of who he truly was. “We’re still figuring that out.”
Kelby’s smile faded into a look of understanding as if he sensed there was more to Arnaz’s words than he let on. “Well, whatever it is, this island has a way of showing people what they need to see. Just like it showed you the cave.”
Kelby, sensing the shift in mood, turned to Arnaz with a lighter tone. "Tonight should be fun. Just relax and enjoy it. Tomorrow... well, tomorrow’s another day."
Throughout the boat ride to Langkawi Harbour, Lila remained unusually quiet, her earlier frustration simmering beneath her calm exterior.
She stared out at the water, lost in thought, while Kelby, ever attentive, kept glancing her way, clearly concerned but trying not to show it too much. Despite her silence, he made sure to host Arnaz and Saliza with his usual cheerfulness, masking the tension between him and Lila.
As the lights of Langkawi Harbour grew brighter, signaling their arrival, Arnaz glanced toward the shore, feeling the lingering pull of Dayang Bunting Island still in his chest, even as they moved further from it.
With expert precision, Kelby guided the speedboat into the docking area, and they soon reached the small pier. He jumped out first, offering Lila his hand as she stepped onto the dock. Though she accepted his gesture, her expression remained distant, her mind elsewhere.
Once everyone had disembarked, Kelby, still in high spirits, turned to them with a grin. "So, now that we’re here, let’s make the most of the night."
They all climbed into the waiting taxi that Kelby had arranged. As the car wove through the lively streets of Langkawi, the anticipation in the vehicle was noticeable, with the earlier tension from the boat ride gradually melting away, replaced by the excitement of the night ahead.
When they arrived at Cenang Beach Club, the lively atmosphere of the beach club welcomed them, with music and lights creating a vibrant ambiance. Kelby, trying to ease Lila’s mood, wrapped his arm around her shoulder and whispered something to her, which earned him a faint smile. He then turned back to Arnaz and Saliza, ready to host them for the night.
Arnaz gave a small smile, but his thoughts were already on what awaited them in the morning, the Twin Flame artifact, Manja’s guidance, and the deeper connection they would soon discover.
Arnaz glanced at Saliza, who met his gaze with a knowing look. Tomorrow, everything would change!
