Don't Pretend You Would Have an Easier Time.
Short story

Mark is sitting on the couch , holding the baby in his arm and the bottle of blood in his other hand. The kid drinking away, his eyes growing tired as the minutes passed.
“Didn't the others tell you to let me feed him?” Kat stands in the doorway, eyeing up her boyfriend holding the adorable child. Her arms crossed, but a twinkling smile in her light green eyes. Her brown reddish hair blending in with her jacket, she walks over to him.
“Don't pretend you would have an easier time” he grins at her, knowing damn well she’s already falling in love.
“Well, I do this for a living, so maybe.”
He raises a playful brow, “you working is different. That, and how many baby vampires do you tend to deal with?"
"Not many," she looks away, the memories of her work flashing through her brown eyes.
Mark adds on, "did you hear back from any houses?"
She shakes her head, "he hit the Vampires and Witches first, and it seems he didn't get a chance to do anything more. The Witches are..." she sighs and her eyes dampen. She clears her throat and continues, "he did a lot of damage but our friends are doing what they can. The Vampires stopped communication as far as I know."
Mark is silent for a moment, the baby finishing up the last bits of blood. "Honestly, even if they were available..." he stares at the baby and his heart strings tug.
“Are we going to be able to raise a Vampire?” She eyes the infant more and Mark can see her resolve was broken before she even came in the room.
He shrugs, “it’s not that different from humans or baby Wolves, we’ll need blood for his feedings but otherwise...”
Kat grins, “you sure you want to do this? All of it?” She eyes the kid, “this might not be a babysitting gig.”
He returns her intense look, “we’ve had this conversation before.” He smiles down at the baby before smiling at her again. “I’m ready, if you are.”
“I think I am.” She nods, then she eyes the blanket on the table. “Is that what he was found in?”
He nods, they had changed the blanket and wrapped him in a warm, clean, soft towel for the time being.
“Do we have to go through your work to do this?” Mark asks as Kat moves to fold the blanket up.
“No, they've got enough to deal with and they know. At most he might not be in any system for a short time. They both smile at each other.
“So, what should we name him?” Mark grins the now sleeping baby.
Kat pauses as she holds the blanket in the light. “Is this his name?”
She holds the other side of the fabric to Mark’s face and it reads “Alex “on the front.
He cocks his head in surprise, “it could be. Might as well.”
Kat grins and sits beside Mark, she strokes the tiny bits of hair on his head and whispers, “hello Alex.”
(Well, if you made it this far, thank you for reading. I've been in a writing rut for a while, so I decided to post some of my stuff. Maybe some will enjoy it. Also, I'm adding this little blurb because I was a few words short but this scene, doesn't need more just yet. If you read all of this, damn, thank you even more.
To add just enough words for publication, I am intending to post more bits and pieces from my hopeful novel. If I can ever write it and be happy with it.) Thank you!
