“I'm expecting.” Jacqueline told her family, stating she and Clyde were expecting Zoe. Five months after Zoe was born and Richard moved to Florida with his wife, Jacqueline and Clyde were not happy with each other.
“I’ll go to Florida and take this baby with me. I'll do it.” Jacqueline shouted to Clyde.
“Go ahead then.” He shouted back.
While on a day out with a five year old Zoe, Jacqueline sees Clyde with another woman in a diner. Upset, she makes the move to Florida, taking Zoe with her. Then she receives a call from Velma.
"Your dad is in the hospital. He had a stroke." Traveling out of Florida with Zoe, Jacqueline sees her father in a hospital room for the second time.
"It was much more painful than before. I heard about you and Clyde. Your mother and I are not happy about it. I know you're upset about this of course."
"I don't know what to do about this, dad."
Jacqueline couldn't figure out who was mad at. She had stopped being mad at Jeffrey for a very long time and had more resentment towards Clyde. Velma and Jeffrey suggested that they go to Caroline to help them. Ironically, Jacqueline file for divorce from Clyde when Zoe turned ten. As her teen years progressed, Zoe became resentful of both of her parents, resulting in Jacqueline sending her to Caroline for her very first session. By the time she turned thirteen, Zoe protested against the upcoming war in Iraq, within a month before the first invasion.
“The only thing I thought about the entire time was my loved ones.” Jeffrey said to Zoe. “After returning home from his first hospitalization, Jeffrey, vent on improving his relationship with Jacqueline, sought the help of Caroline by the time Jacqueline was eight. He had then told her about almost separating from Velma, his past relationship with Edward, and other problems he had.
"I missed her. I missed her curly hair, looking into those brown eyes of hers and making her laugh" he told Caroline.
It was the day that Jacqueline had the accident, after falling off the monkey bars and almost cutting her knee, that had put Jeffrey and Velma into a panic. Jeffrey raced to the hospital, holding Jacqueline in his arms as he ran down the emergency room. When Jeffrey brought her home that evening, Velma looked at him happily.
"I was scared of my mind. But seeing you two together. That was nice. Thanks." She then tearfully hugs him.
The Martins had put their differences aside for Frances, Richard and Jacqueline. As he told a seventeen year old Jacqueline this, she hugged him, realizing she still did love him.
Jacqueline and Clyde then spoke to each other at Richard's daughter, Alison’s, ninth birthday, sixteen years before. Zoe was happy to see both of her parents together.
Like her brother, Caroline has two children of her own, who were similar to their cousins in different ways. She was pregnant with her second child by the time she began counseling Jeffrey and Velma. The tension between them had caused Caroline to go the emergency room, preparing to give birth her son earlier than expected.
Caroline being on maternity leave made it difficult for Velma to come to her. So she drove to her house one weekend explaining how happy she was with Jeffrey and the children.
"Jeff and I took the kids to the beach. I realized how much I still love him. He still sees me as the lovely woman he met." Caroline smiles as she said this. Through her talk with Caroline, Velma and Jeffrey spent the night out to converse as Velma did with Jacqueline when she and Clyde were separated and then reuniting.
Back in the guestroom, Jeffrey had put an conclusion to his oral history.
