Barrett Ladon looked at his accounts. The sea of red looked like his screen bled. As a senior vice president of Diamante Bank, he had used the company card past the limit. He knew this all fell on his shoulders and if he were to go to a credit card repair company, he’d be flagged before the next billing cycle. Diamante would fire him and he’d be back to moving furniture. Or maybe he could be a crabber again and make almost the same amount of money as he did in a suit and tie.

He told himself, “no.” He switched off the screen and called the only person who could help.

“Loreen Breen, when talking to me, be sure to keep it clean,” Businesswoman said.

“Loreen, I-I need help. Now, I know you’re going to say, ‘I got myself in this, I better get myself out,’ I get it. I, though, really am deep in it.”

He told her about the card.

“It’s okay. Just bail yourself out,” Loreen relayed with simplicity.

“I mean I have some savings, but I don’t have that kind of cash on hand. We’re talking seven figures.”

“You’re a big boy, Barry. I think you know what to do. You’re scared. You’ve never been this far down the rabbit hole. Just take the hit.”

Landon inhaled sharply. “I get that but back when we were in school, you’d always see that I did my work and passed tests.”

“Yes, but I didn’t complete your homework or complete those exams.”

“So there’s nothing you can do for me?”

“There is something I can do. In Wilmington, the Credit Card Capital of the World, a high profile banker can’t fulfill his debt. I’d say that you should seek dollars from your family. They should help, actually.”
