“So you’re a….” Lisa started.
“That’s right. I prefer the term gentleman of leisure.”
“What can we help you with today?” Loreen asked.
“You can start by addressing me as Vidor,” he stated curtly.
Loreen’s eyes brightened. “Okay, Vidor, sir, what is our purpose here?”
“I know you both assist professionals, well what is it with the oldest profession in the world? Why does the country which claims to be the freest not allow my comrades to sell our wares?”
“We’re all for that actually. We’re putting in a petition to legalize it across the board.”
“Does that mean taxation?” Vidor asked.
“For now, yes,” Loreen explained. “In fact I think there will be your work that’s made available on the free market before income taxes are abolished for federal, state, and city,” she smiled.
“There’s a balance here that must be struck,” Lisa announced. “The women you work for all receive benefits, aid, and the ability to walk away from the blade, correct?”
“Yes, that’s right. I give them all liberty of motion. If they don’t want to be on the track, that’s their business. I’ve still gotta run mine.”
“We’ve met with some of the women you work with previously. They’re proud of their dealings and enjoy being under your leadership. To be comfortable with you is reassuring, no?”
“It just ought to be. I put in the labor for my money. I make sure they’re well taken care of and I’ve never had to put my hands on any of them. I bark.”
“That’s what keeps them in line?” Loreen ventured.
“What keeps them in line is the dollar almighty. That’s what keeps anyone in line. Squares gotta stay in line if they want that cash. When you’re in the life, you’re dedicated to virtues and values.”
