Raindrops outside of the coffee shop seemed soft. The whooshing sound of water whenever a car or truck passed brought about a quick shutter in Jelika Voorman or just “Jel.” Loreen and Lisa looked into her eyes. A thousand and one stories lay behind her blue eyes.

“So you just wanted espresso?” Lisa asked.

“Yes. All I need is a shot,” she replied, knocking back the bitter but bold liquid.

“We’re working on presenting something whole.”

Jel looked up and grinned. “Whole?”

“Yes,” Lisa said. “We’re preparing a case to make what you do completely legal and proper based on moral grounds.”

“Okay,” Jel replied.

“For your industry, billions of people have found it to be not just a service but a way of experiencing another person throughout the millennia.”

“So, you’re saying you seek to implement a pay structure, a taxation scale, and an overall safety measure to protect us?”

“Absolutely. By giving you the ability to go in the digital sphere, you also won’t have to worry about the federal, state, and local taxes. In fact there would only be a consumption tax.”

Jel’s eyes widened like saucers. “No taxes…for us?”

Loreen and Lisa nodded together.

“I need another shot.” Lisa rose and ordered some more espresso for Jel.

“That’s fine. We’ve got you. Now, you will soon be able to go about Delaware worrying about someone violating you whether that be a customer or some bureaucrat,” Loreen explained. Lisa returned with the tiny cup of the strong stuff.

“You will be able to communicate with the man who arranges your negotiations by direct means and you will manage your earnings with him with confidence.”

Jel nodded after she took the shot. “Whoo!

I like all of this. When can it all happen?”

“In a bit,” Loreen assured.
