Dust did not know Mayor Geoff Goff’s office. The immaculate decor and meticulously arranged photos with dignitaries, gifts from overseas pervaded the space. He stood and shook hands with Loreen and Lisa. Chief of police Marza Haven also shook their hands.
“We’ve brought you here today to extend the idea of mitigating and eliminating crime in the city of Wilmington,” Goff started. “Chief Haven is keen on accomplishing this task. Especially, we’re talking about actual crimes, not drug trade or prostitution. We’re going after murderers, robbers, rapists, and fraudsters. Chief….”
“Thank you, sir. We’re asking for help from you ladies for your business prowess and ability to solve problems.”
“Snitches get riches,” Loreen stated plainly, with a bit of pluck.
“You’re saying we should continue the program for people with information to be compensated for their statements?”
“Yes, but I’m ready to put up millions of dollars to ensure that anyone with intelligence regarding criminals should have a sizable reward.”
Lisa smiled. Then she reminded herself of the gravity if the situation and the smirk disappeared.
“Okay,” Goff spoke.
“This may be the best we have to offer. Two and five thousand dollar rewards don’t seem to motivate people in the same way millions would,” Chief Haven acknowledged.
“With the state not having to foot the bill, you will have more people willing to tell than lines for the lottery,” she continued.
“Yes, we’ve already worked out a specific tier system to address whatever crime that might arise,” Lisa added. “With our contributions to the cause, we can inspire more people to donate to ‘sweeten the pot’ as they say.”
Goff sat with his fingers tapping together like keys on a piano.
“Okay, we can enroll this idea out in the coming weeks. Thank you ladies for your precious time.”

On the dashboard of her brainchip, Dr. Frampton saw a message zip into view. There was no information on the sender. The note simply read, “They’re trying to sabotage the corporation.” She didn’t know who this “they” was. She didn’t know exactly how someone or some people could be detracting from her company. A frown descended on her countenance. She walked the halls with synths and learned machines ambling around her. The Book of Petch
Petch couldn't peel his black eyes away from the sky. Kelgus was smoldering in some places and burning in others. Whatever had scorched it had also appeared to melt it rock in certain places. As far as Petch could remember of his youth studies, Kelgus was home to mostly flora and fauna. The Sorian Order had sent probes to the planet several times over the last fifty or sixty years as well as a couple landing missions, but the geographic study of the planet as well as the study of plant and animal life suggested that intelligent life such as primitive tribes or civilizations, didn't exist. As every species that lived in Olna now seemed to be on the city beach staring up, Petch's left wrist lit up which he touched with the first finger of his other hand. This generated a holoscreen with Jedro's face on it.
