People gathered like sheep. They heard the words and with bated breath drew in each syllable. Every word was a gasp of terror as the man barked. He, though, made the slime oozing from his rhetorics as sweet as honey from a sieve.

“This whole nation is collapsing from under us. It is the fat cats that are bleeding us dry like leeches. We have been oppressed by these oligarchs and plutocrats!”

The crowd burst through yelps of approval and murmurs of recognition.

“We will take back all of this together. We, my brothers and sisters, are the reason for this country. We are the ones who have been called to mount uo in this great race with a new standard bearing our blood. I’m Common Man and I am here to deliver on the promise of a utopia of egolessness and favor! I thank you all,” he pontificated this with a throaty aggressiveness. As he stepped down from the podium, he smiled and pumped his fists in the air as if he’d just won the Grand Prix.

On the opposite side of all this commotion, Loreen looked at Lisa. Businessgirl looked back her partner.

“We still have to contend with that? We can take him.”

“Yes, it won’t be easy,” Loreen acknowledged. “But we can beat him and his band of Collectivists.”

The two women prepared for their roles as the cleanup crew for the city of Wilmington, Delaware. The corruption, the lies corroded the town and made it almost impossible to breathe. They looked at the screen where Common Man’s sneering face promoted such verbiage.

“We’re going to continue to help businesses small and large, despite the influence of those who seek to disrupt and destroy.” Loreen noted this while pacing her studio floor. “We will do this.”
