Businesswoman Chapter 37
Bloody Marys
Light from the sun beckoned Loreen and Lisa to meet Holiday Van Exel. She looked prim and well-kept for her fifty-five years. They met at the top floor of a Wilmington, Delaware skyscraper.
“Good morning, ladies. Bloody Marys?”
“No, thank you,” the two women said almost in unison.
“Alright, then let’s get to the sinews,” Holiday spoke evenly.
“I’ve been tasked to keep a record of my personnel and clients for government use. How can I stop this?”
“As you know, escort services are illegal currently in the state. We know this is your remote office. Your company, as you know, is headquartered near casinos, shows, hotels and buffets.”
Holiday sipped from her Bloody Mary. The tanginess and the coldness coalesced to form a thoroughly intoxicating beverage. She smiled.
“I know you think what I do is vile….”
Lisa interjected. “If that were the case, we wouldn’t be sitting here.”
Holiday smiled. Slight creases in her face gave away her age, but only in a slight manner.
“That’s great to know. All we do is use cameras and screens. It’s not even the same escort service. That’s the irony. It’s all on devices now and none of my workers are engaged in physical transactions.”
“That’s why we’re here. We will petition the state of Delaware and the entire country to legalize all forms of prostitution. This would protect children and adult sex workers.”
“As I understand, you ladies have made efforts already. My respect for you is high. However, I don’t know if you’re believers. Are you?”
“No,” Loreen said with confidence. “No,” Lisa proclaimed with pride.
“That could be a problem. I know that prostitutes cavorted with Jesus. Same goes with my firm.”
“We may use reason but we can still transact despite our differences.”
“Okay,” Holiday agreed, smiling.
