Businesswoman Chapter 338
Timepiece
Some signs of the snowfall showed. The blackened banks looked like oven soot from some bygone era. Loreen, nevertheless, traveled to a watchmaking company that had been in Delaware for nearly one hundred and seven years.
She looked at timepieces which appeared as intricate as Goulding's engine.
“This is the latest craft we’ve been able to produce,” Glaston Hull remarked. At ninety-one years, he had been working for Hull Chronographs for seventy-three years. His gray hair slicked back against his tar black skin. Gold rimmed glasses shined like the full set of his own teeth in his mouth.
“I’ve called you here,” Hull mentioned, “to guide you to the factory, yes, but we have business concerns.” Loreen beamed.
“It would be a pleasure to help you in any way I can, sir,” Loreen didn’t say it with humility. Her ego bloomed through the words.
“We have been hit by tariffs as some of our parts come from Switzerland. Now, the lowest price watch in our operation is $49,000. There is no God but thank God there is no tax. Just tariffs.”
“While I can’t control Washington, I can say that if you make your watches a collection and sell them that way instead of individual pieces, you might be able to recoup the costs to produce them.”
Hull’s eyes glazed over and he felt faint.
Loreer grabbed his arm and found a chair.
“Please sit, sir,” she suggested.
“I think that’s the best way out of our debts. Yes! A collection would definitely create a way for the dollars to flow significantly again.”
“That’s the idea, Mr. Hull,” Loreen replied.
He breathed. “I know I’ve been able to get this firm back in good stead despite the machinations of the State. This will revolutionize everything. Thanks.”
“Yes it will, sir.”
