Once she cracked the spine of the book, a rush of autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) stimulated regions of her brain. Loreen had been looking for a particular tome to re-read and had enough time to do it with this mini vacation she had to herself.
She could select it in her temperature controlled library where all she had to do consisted of asking Simon to hand her a specific book.
She walked out of her personal library and read the chapter titles. At a rapid pace, the names all flooded back into her consciousness.
The book had been close to one hundred years old, but its power still held sway. In it she found refuge and something else. She noticed that one of the chapters had the design of the paper note she had found in her office.
She shuddered. A coldness crept into her body and she slammed the book shut. A heavy breath choked her. Back into the digital world, she looked at any text messages regarding the mysterious paper.
No further word had been passed to her. Loreen looked at her smartwatch. It approached eleven in the morning and she desired a potent potable.
The best Scotch ever devised poured into a glass. A single, Loreen gulped it down and poured another glass. She had been the sole person in the large estate. No drunkenness had overpowered her. She made it her mission to remain sober, just with a slight electric sensation coursing through her body.
She picked up the book again and sipped. The wisdom of those who consume alcohol responsibly can come in many forms.
Wisely, Loreen leaned into the idea someone had to have been in her library, too. The design looked like a metallic tesseract. Though small, it had been totally unmistakable.
