Devlin sliced into the turkey. He had fixed baked macaroni, green bean casserole, sweet potato soufflé, dinner rolls, and baked a sweet potato pie and a pumpkin pie—from scratch. Lisa smiled.
“Wow. You really don’t need to go to restaurants," she remarked.
“It’s nothing. My father taught me how to cook.”
“l see.”
“This is an American holiday, Thanksgiving, for the producers.” Lisa nodded her head in agreement.
“Imagine just the supply chain itself. You have to thank everyone involved. This meal is a symbol of all the folks that make up everything around us.” She waved her hands in space. “But I thank you the most for coming into my life.”
He smiled. “Your food's going to get cold.” They looked at each for a full five minutes and laughed. No prayers, no grace had to be said. The thankfulness of both of them and between them launched them into a laughing fit until forks and knives sliced into vittles.
After the meal they watched the game. Lisa followed every route, every play.
“My mom taught me the game,” she mentioned. She pulled up her smartphone and started coordinating plays. Devlin looked at her in awe. She cradled the device like a babe except just with her two hands.
Lisa could see where the action would be going with just a few taps and swipe.
“That looks like what the players are like in my own virtual realm.”
“Your computer world is mesmerizing. Why didn't you accept the terms of my deal before we even met?” Lisa asked.
“I’m going to need more than forty percent.”
“You’ve got it. I’ll give you forty-nine percent.”
Devlin grinned and then became straightfaced. “I couldn’t do that. Your dating site is high-minded and revolutionary. I have a game.”
“We can work this.”
