What took Entrepreneur Paul longer to get out of bed to run at four o’clock in the morning had nothing to do with laziness. He checked the markets. Asian and European traders had already been busy with the various stocks, bonds, and securities before most of America had awakened.
He grinned. It was a warm and simple little smile that one smacks on their face when they make ten million dollars on a single trade.
He wore sneakers and a running suit. Into the black, he adjusted his watch to check for blood pressure, oxygen, and finally the time. He started like a mustang just slapped on the rear.
Every step, after about a half hour, produced what some called the “runner’s high.” Beads of sweat congregated at the top of his forehead. The watch jittered. He looked down and his grin transformed into a deep frown. Where sweat met, a deep crease formed.
He had just lost eight million dollars that fast. Two million dollars, he thought. So far. He resumed his run despite the disappointing news.
As he rounded a corner around his Wilmington block, he saw kids milling about waiting for the city bus to arrive. Instead of waiting for the school bus, they had decided to take public transportation to get a head start on the day.
This put a bit of pep in his step. He wondered about the young minds that would shape the world one day. He thought about the ones who would be captains of industry and blaze business trails even wider and more profound than he had imagined.
His watch read one hour seven minutes when he had finished his run. He received a call from Loreen. He brought his wrist up to his mouth.
“Good morning.”
“I need you now.”
