Loreen Breen looked at the numbers. She felt an ease then an exhilaration when dealing with data.
She called Delaware State Senator Corman Howvell. He leaned back and grinned.
“Lor”, I’m glad you called….” he announced.
“I’ve been going over the figures. It seems obvious even without the numbers but the American poor is far different than almost any other form of poverty in the world. Americans have smart cars and smartphones and live under the poverty line.”
“Absolutely. That’s why we passed a resolution to end the benefits programs.”
“Shouldn’t you have waited though? I mean regulations and controls should be barred. Those measures would definitely boost the workforce and protect individual rights all in one swoop.”
Howvell’s face became straight. “Yes, well we should have done that. It’s not too late to begin those measures you speak of,” he voiced.
“We have the middle class shrinking because people are becoming richer. Poor people are fat in this country. They will be able to work as trash men and janitors at fast food restaurants. Then, they’ll be enabled to work the fries; next they’ll be on the cash register. They’ll be promoted to supervisor and then manager. After all is settled, they’ll be franchise owners in a few years’ time.”
“Of course. That’s why we must get rid of these programs that just dole out everything,” Howvell replied.
“Yes, I agree, but if you could just figure out a way for your constituents to put on hold ceasing the benefits programs and demolish the government regulatory state, that would be great,” she shot back.
“This is going through first. We have to look at the people getting enough incentives to join the employment field,” Howvell countered.
“We’re just going to have to disagree on this one,” she sighed slowly.
