Businesswoman Chapter 279
Symphony over Cacophony
In the symphony hall in Wilmington, Delaware, the sounds of Phyllis Deaver floated through the air. Loreen and Breen sat in evening clothes and listened with intent rapture. The notes remained so crisp and a certain levity hovered over the room. Loreen’s phone vibrated. She whispered, “I have to take this.” She excused herself by way of one of the side exits.
“What’s up Paul?” she asked into the smartphone, near a young man at the refreshments stand. He busied himself by writing on napkins a play that he hoped would be produced down the street at the Mercier Hotel and Playhouse.
“We’re about to get slammed by the Collectivists.” He didn’t mince words. “They’re in full force down here. They’re disrupting traffic, everything. You’ve gotta get down here.”
“I’m on it.” She texted her husband. “Sorry. Serious business. Gotta run.”
She hailed a ride share vehicle. “Please take me to Aubrey Plaza Plaza.”
“You can’t get there…hey you’re Businesswoman!”
“Yes, and why not?”
“Huge supporter…um, there’s a demonstration going on there. Everything’s blocked off. Wow, Businesswoman in my car. Cool.”
“I’ll tip you extra. Please take me there.”
“I’m not going to deny Businesswoman twice.”
Once they arrived at the scene the blaring from a bullhorn became evident as they approached. Flash bang grenades lobbed from police officers. Pepper bullets penetrated through the din of noises. Shouts, sirens, and horns all became the exact opposite of what she had become accustomed to that evening at the symphony.
“Thanks for the ride and the support,” She took out her stylus and made a digital signature for the drive.
“Thank you, Businesswoman.”
Lisa and Entrepreneur Paul stood adjacent to the commotion.
“It’s them.” Those words escaped from Lisa’s mouth as if it were full of blood.
“We’ve been here not long.”
