Not only did Lisa never surrender, she became more aggressive. By expanding in the digital block, she encouraged her workforce to spend more time away from friends and families.
Never did she consider this a sacrifice. She stabbed at a cherry tomato with a fork and looked at lines of code. She smirked. Through all the zeroes and ones, she could see the worlds of relationships grow and crumble within moments.
She received a call. One of her senior vice presidents, Fred Murs let her know.
“This isn’t an issue now, but it could get worse,” he notified her.
“Why, what’s the problem?”
“There are messages about the ceasefire in the Mideast. They’ve already released hostages.”
“I’m aware of this. How is this a problem?”
“There’s going to be an influx, an outpouring of both positive and negative reactions.”
“So?”
Murs didn’t become frustrated with his boss but just relayed the message.
“Our teams will have to ramp up our systems. They might be robust, but people will have to be more vigilant than normal.”
“I’ll issue bonuses and incentives to stay up and drink more energy drinks,” she remarked with sincerity.
Murs sighed. “I wish it were that easy, Lis’.”
“Why can’t it be? The hostages found freedom? That seemed easy. Now, all they’ve gotta do is bomb the strongholds of the enemy. It appears rather straightforward to me.”
“That may be true, but we have to remember our people are going to be strained.”
“Bonuses and vacation time can alleviate all of that.” Lisa saw the glass as half full because you can’t empty a glass of half empty water. It’s always half full. She thought of this when Murs decided to click off the line.
“No, he didn’t just bang on me!” Lisa exclaimed but didn’t shout.
