At the outset of Entrepreneur Paul’s meeting with his board, he felt a twinge of pain. It encircled around his head. The point of the gathering didn’t sit well with him.
“You, Marvin, what have we got?” He asked Mr. Vedder. He was light skinned with swirling waves and freckles. He stood at six feet tall. He was twenty-five.
“Sir, we’re hemorrhaging some of the sales of the sneakers. It’s been like that for the past two quarters.”
Entrepreneur Paul looked poised and taphus for fingers together in his lap.
“Why has this happened?” he asked.
A young woman the color of brownies and about five foot three inches spoke up.
“We’re just not seeing the revenue we used to observe,” Ursuline Waters pointed out.
Atkinson cleared his throat. It was like rebooting a computer system. “What we must do is emphasize the numbers. We must take seriously the might of money. As long as we keep losing money, there may be a liquidation. You all will be losing your jobs. I don’t want you to see that.”
A silence hung in the room like a pall over a casket. Then, Marvin piped up.
“If we can look more at advertising and marketing, we can show—” he started.
“I think we should focus on the design,” Ursuline injected her views into the conversation. Entrepreneur Paul leaned back and grinned a bit. He noticed the fire and intensity that his board members showed. It was more than just their jobs on the line. It was their passion for creating more.
“Please, please, let’s keep this civil, now. I appreciate your zeal, but let’s not talk on top of one another,” Atkinson cautioned.
“Sir,” Marvin mentioned. “We’re dealing with the fate of a company you built. We know you’ve got other businesses.”
