After her brief time as a hacker, Lisa resumed the site. She instituted a robust system that made it possible for people to chat and share stories and photos and videos and more (all moderated by her team) with other users.
Since she still had no partner herself, she felt compelled to make as much money off of the site as she could. If the love life couldn’t be attained, the money sure could. Until she found a programmer who had a question. His face popped up on the screen. Toliver Shrute had medium brown skin and chiseled features. Braids covered his head.
“Miss Conway, there’s an issue with one of the lines of code. There appears to be a broken link associated with it.”
Already smitten but not showing it, Lisa cleared her throat.
“Is there any way to patch it up?”
“The team is trying desperately to repair it but we need your override in order to process it properly.” Lisa swung around and placed her hands on the keyboard. Her fingers became lightning, striking with a force and intensity that enlivened her.
“There. See if the link is broken now,” Lisa commanded. Shrute looked at his screen and noticed the repair link.
“It looks like someone’s going to find a match. You did it, ma’am,” Shrute congratulated.
“You can call me Lisa,” she replied.
“I don’t know if I feel comfortable with that. You’re my boss and I have a girlfriend so….”
To break from the awkwardness, Lisa just changed back to work mode.
“You were the one who fixed the problem. Salute to you, Mr. Shrute,” Lisa said, holding back tears. She did not let one tear drop, however. The screen went blank and she found herself back on the grind. She never wavered with work.
