Businesswoman Chapter 19
Decades
Chunks of pineapple floated to the top of the rum and fruit in the blender. With the harsh whirring sound filling Loreen’s ears, she remembered something. This activity was illegal decades ago. People actually had to resort to speakeasies or get arrested for the manufacture, production, sale, and consumption of alcohol. She went to her trusted tablet.
Like an adventurer delving into parts unknown in a jungle, she had the notion that she could find a way to legalize narcotics. She video chatted with the governor of Delaware, Betha Dozier.
“Hi, Loreen!”
“Hey Madam Mayor.”
“What’s up?”
“I was just fixing myself a strong one, and it dawned on me that the First State could be the first state to completely and unequivocally decriminalize and legalize illicit drugs. And while we’re at, petition the federal government to allow for all drugs to be available on the market.”
Betha shook her head. “I know you’re Businesswoman and you want to save the day. This is not that. That is not this. Choose something simpler that can get me re-elected.”
“This is a hot button issue, for sure,” Loreen admitted, “but this is the reason we don’t have a fully free country, much less a city or a state.”
“I mean…if we implement the various measures which would make sense…I think we could have a lift on the ban of every drug. But that’s down the line. We must first control the problem as it stands.”
“With all due respect, Betha, we’ve gotta start with this ideal. It would be a domino effect for other regulations and controls. Adults will say, ‘Oh, I can smoke, snort, inject, or absorb this substance, why not get rid of regulations on fossil fuels?’”
Betha looked away. “I’ll see what I can do.”
“That’s what’s up!”
