With an incredulous eye, Atkinson looked at the headline on his smartphone. “‘Hometown hero saves the day at high school graduation,’” he read aloud.

“That’s all they’re going to remember me for, now. Not my businesses, hell, not even for the diploma that bestowed upon me. It was an accident. The poor soul needed help so I provided it. Now, they’re calling me a ‘selfless altruist.’ The irony overwhelms.”

“Think nothing of it,” Loreen insisted as Atkinson, Lisa and she journeyed to her estate. “You already know how I feel about the press. I grant they need their freedom of speech, but I don’t have to agree with everything they say. You don’t have to either, Paul.”

“I know. I just think it’s a shame that one’s business activities must take a back seat to a strange event. I’m glad the young woman’s safe.”

“Exactly, we’re all weary and wary of the Fourth Estate. At once they can be vicious, biased cretins. On the other hand, they offer sunlight to the dark crevices of the world.”

Once the three of them arrived at Loreen’s mansion, they headed to her War Room. With decals popping off the wall in vibrant colors to the lights cascading from the ceiling, the place looked welcoming and intense all together.

“Alright this is where the money is,” Loreen started. “We’ll each be given one hundred million dollars for our efforts. I know we got into a scheduling conflict before,” Loreen mentioned, looking at Lisa. “I’ve checked. Antonia and Sabrina are clear on the date of the talk. No worries.”

“That sounds great, but how’re we going to know if something arises on either of our ends in the time remaining?” Atkinson asked.

“We don’t, but that doesn’t mean we don’t prepare for it.”

He nodded.
