Businesswoman Chapter 144

Grandeur II

“Let’s talk about the government for a moment,” Gentry suggested.

“Okay,” Loreen replied.

“You’re not about the welfare state, handouts, or programs like that, right?”

“No, I’m not, but they should be the last programs to go. What we should focus on are regulations and controls. We must first deal with the fact that the sole role of government is to protect individual rights.”

“So, no health care, no benefits for the old, very young, and the poor?”

“No. But you eliminate these programs gradually. Over time, you will see that getting rid of constraints on businesses is the real goal.”

Gentry squirmed a bit in his chair. He felt a pang of the truth knock against his head like an orca striking a sea vessel.

“Alright, we get rid of all the regulatory systems. Then what? Planes fall out of the skies, roads never get fixed, schools go to hell. What in your laissez-faire world holds up society?”

“Society is just you, the camerapeople, the lighting, the staff, and me. We make up the society. Now, those planes, roads, and schools would all be privatized. The only agencies to not be part of the private sector would be cops, warriors, and judges. Those specific entities you mentioned would fly higher and faster, be cleaner and safer, and promote better ideas and actually allow students to think.”

“Mrs. Breen….”

“Call me Loreen.”

“Of course. You can’t be serious about such widespread privatization.”

“Oh, I’m serious as colorectal cancer.”

“Then you would see that there is a dearth and a disparity between private wealthy individuals and the people at the bottom….”

“Actually, the difference is shrinking. The middle class is getting narrower because more people become rich. The poor are becoming richer. This is not because of handouts, this is business.”
