When the cameras had been adjusted, Loreen sat up straight. Her microphone had been affixed with care. She looked at the host of the talk show.
“We’re here with the friend of the businessperson, Businesswoman herself has graced us with her presence.” There was no studio audience so no applause or cheers occurred. The host Henson Gentry opened the show.
“Now, let’s get to the topic of faith. You are an atheist but you attend church and listen to gospel music. How do you reconcile those facts?”
“Simply. I don’t regard the unknown and unknowable. I recognize that church and gospel music and other facets of faith are actually products of the human mind. They represent the highest, the greatest, extreme grandeur. I enjoy the messages of praise and exaltation, even if I don’t necessarily believe in a God or gods.”
“That’s interesting. What do you say about people who call you a hypocrite? Jesus turned over the exchange tables in the temple. The Bible proclaims that the love of money is the root of all evil. What do you say about this kind of rhetoric?”
“I say that people are conflicted. They want to produce and become wealthy, but they are tugged by their faith to feel otherwise. Jesus showed his aggression because of the dichotomy that continues to this day. People are split, even the church. They have to take in tithes and offerings, too. So that is the reason why the writers of the Bible said love of money instead of just money. They knew people could squeeze and work around the concept of money. But if you modify it, that shows that you can make money, exchange it, and save it without the burden of adoring it. I thoroughly reject that notion.”
“Okay, we’ll be back.”
