Businesswoman Chapter 125

Chief Executive Officer

By Skyler SaundersPublished 9 months ago 1 min read

Dampness covered the ground around Loreen’s house. She looked at the raindrops falling to the ground. A speaking engagement meant she would step forth through the elements. She affixed a broach to her lapel that looked like a jade scorpion.

Her husband Heschel leaned on the door jamb.

“I heard you praising Lisa on her first speaking engagement as Businessgirl. This must be your thousandth,” he chirped.

“Yes, well she did excel at the craft. I’m going to make sure she earns more dollars, however,” Loreen replied. Herschel walked over to his wife. He stood behind her and gripped her waist. He pecked her neck. She relaxed her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes.

“Your love is the chief executive officer of my soul,” Loreen admitted with a hint of glee and total reverence.

“I know,” Herschel responded. They both smiled and he kissed her neck once more before breaking the embrace. Loreen gathered her tools which included, perfume, her phone, mace, mints, and .22 caliber pistol. She packed all of this inside a pocket book and kept it moving.

Raphael had already come to the door with an umbrella. He escorted her to the Goulding. Laying in the back, Loreen memorized her speech once more and breathed. She thought of the Collectivists gaining mental space in the minds of the populace. This speech would have to challenge and dismiss their every move.

When she arrived at the venue, no cars remained in the parking lot.

“What the hell?” Loreen uttered it slowly under her breath.

Raphael got out and talked to one of the security agents. He returned to the vehicle.

“Ma’am,” he started, “There was a bomb threat.”

“How do you like that? I didn’t even get a text message or any indication of what happened!”
