The cleaner, lubricant, and preservative (CLP) oozed out onto the surface of the stainless steel firearm. Loreen’s sure hand and careful eye ensured that the weapon would be completely free from dirt, dust, and sand. She brushed with vigor and wiped with ease.

Her cell phone rang. She didn’t recognize the caller ID.

“Yes? Mrs. Breen speaking, how may I—”

The line went dead.

“Huh,” she replied to the phantom caller. She nevertheless continued to service her pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Another phone call came through. This time, Lisa desired her attention.

“Hey, girl!” Loreen exclaimed.

“Hi, Lor’. I’m going to be addressing the members of my 501 (c) (3). It’ll be about six hundred people but should net me in the low six figures.”

“That’s great! What’s up? Do you need some pointers?”

Lisa breathed. “I just don’t want to go up on that stage and freeze. I’m okay with business deals, I’m fine with creating plans, I just tend to tense up in front of large crowds. I mean I’ve done it but I just thought of the one person who can work a room.”

“That’s sweet. All you have to do is prepare and practice with excellence. You’ve got to know the material, yes, but you have to indicate to the audience that you know what you’re saying.”

The words washed over Lisa like cool jets of air. They settled her frazzled mind as she gained a new perspective.

“Do you understand?” Loreen asked.

Even in her fatigue, Lisa could respond with confidence. “I appreciate it, but we won’t know if I get on that platform and open my mouth.”

“Let the money motivate you. It should be your lodestone, directing you to the glory of sharing ideas. This is not for play but work.”

“Thank you.”
