Let’s take a look at a short story about a man who is transitioning from one company to another with a promising new opportunity.
This man was known for being kind and polite. His team members enjoyed working with him because he handled situations calmly, thoughtfully, and effectively. He had earned the respect of the entire project team. Now, he's leaving the company to pursue career growth with a better opportunity at a well-regarded organization.
To send him off, his team organised a farewell call. One by one, his colleagues shared memories, stories of teamwork, and some of the challenges they’d overcome together. Each person mentioned the same quality about him: “He is a good man.”
After everyone had spoken, he smiled and thanked them all. But he added, "I don’t claim to be a good man. From my perspective, no one is entirely good. I know there’s a darker side within me. However, I choose not to show it, as I don’t want to earn a bad reputation or feel ashamed. I make a conscious effort to nurture positive thoughts, actions, and habits. These help keep my negative side in check. So, I’d say I’m striving to be a good man.”
Sounds good, doesn’t it?
No one is perfectly good. But we can all strive to nurture positive thoughts, actions, and habits to keep our darker side under control. You don’t need to worry about having a darker side—it doesn’t have to define you.
If this resonates with you, I encourage you to consider it. Otherwise, continue living your life in your own way!
