A Journey Through Flavors at Istanbul Grill Orlando
Discovering Turkish Comfort Food in the Heart of Central Florida

The first time I stepped into Istanbul Grill Orlando, I had no idea what to anticipate. I'd heard rumors about their heavenly food, but anything would have been less than sufficient in order to equip me for the open-hugged welcome of aromas that met me there—smoky meat, spicy odors, and hot bread commingling like a promise of something really exceptional.
Secretly nestled in a warm niche in Orlando, this family restaurant is so much a secret it keeps from you that you are invited in. Walls are sprinkled with suggestions of Turkish culture—striped fabrics, warm lamps, and subdued hum of conversation that welcomes you at once to its home. My warm and affable server, bestowing on me a ray of a smile, showed to me a menu scribbled as if lovingly penned unto convention.
I began with the hummus, silky and creamy, served with warm, flaky Turkish bread that pulled apart like a dream. The lamb shish kebab followed, each piece juicy and smoky, full of flavors that hinted at recipes handed down through generations. The tabbouleh side dish was a light, citrusy respite, each bite a perfect crisp and fresh. I couldn't help but swipe a taste of my friend's chicken adana—seasoned to the hilt, with the caramelized char that danced on my tongue.
Most surprising of all, even though the food was amazing, was the attention to every detail. The manner in which waiters asked how things were without hovering, the dignity with which they described the meals, and the respect that I was eating with a meal as one would in someone's home. When I finally drank the bitter and earthy Turkish coffee, I was already planning my return.
