Under the Italian Moon

When Love Meets the Underworld

By Hasan Published about a year ago 3 min read

Siobhan stared at the glowing screen of her computer, the familiar hum of the office around her fading into a dull roar. Another day in the IT grind, another day of troubleshooting frustratingly mundane problems. She sighed, pushing her hair back from her face. Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from Marcus, her fiancé. "Dinner tonight? Can’t wait to see you!"

“Yeah, sure,” she murmured, her heart not quite in it. She was already feeling trapped in a life that seemed to be moving in slow motion.

Later that evening, as she walked down the bustling streets of the city, her thoughts drifted to the handsome stranger she had glimpsed in a café earlier that week. Jacob Mullen, a name that echoed with danger and allure. Little did she know, he was watching her now, hidden in the shadows, an enigmatic smile on his lips.

Suddenly, a rough hand clamped over her mouth. “Scream, and you’ll regret it,” a voice whispered. Before she could react, darkness enveloped her.

When Siobhan awoke, she found herself in a lavish room adorned with rich fabrics and gold accents. Panic surged through her. “Where am I?” she shouted, struggling against the ropes binding her wrists.

“Relax, Siobhan,” Jacob’s smooth voice cut through the air, and she looked up to see him leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, a charming grin on his face. “You’re safe with me. For now.”

“Safe? You kidnapped me!” She tried to sound fierce, but her heart raced at the sight of him. He was undeniably handsome, with deep-set eyes that sparkled with mischief.

“I did what I had to do,” he replied, stepping closer. “You’re going to love Italy.”

“Love it? I have a life back home!” she protested, though a part of her was already intrigued by the adventure.

Jacob chuckled softly, his gaze unwavering. “That life is no good for you. I can show you a world filled with passion, excitement… and danger.”

Days turned into weeks, and Siobhan found herself torn. Italy was intoxicating, the nights alive with laughter and music. Jacob was magnetic, his charisma pulling her in despite her engagement. “You know, I shouldn’t feel this way,” she confessed one night, the moon casting a silver glow over them.

“Why not? You deserve happiness,” he murmured, brushing his fingers against her cheek.

Just then, an ominous figure appeared—Lily Mullen, Jacob’s mother. “You,” she spat, eyes blazing. “You need to leave my son alone, or I’ll make you pay. Ten billion dollars to disappear, or I’ll kill you.”

Siobhan’s breath caught. “I’m not leaving him,” she declared defiantly, even as fear laced her voice.

Lily’s men had her cornered, but in a moment of sheer instinct, Siobhan bolted toward the open door. “Run!” Jacob shouted, but she didn’t look back.

The streets were a blur of color and chaos as she dashed through alleys, her heart pounding. She escaped, but the danger loomed large.

Hours later, she collapsed in a dimly lit café, breathless. Suddenly, her phone buzzed. A message from Marcus: “I love you, Siobhan. I’ll always protect you.” Guilt washed over her.

However, fate twisted again when news broke that Lily and her men had been murdered on the highway. Whispers of revenge filled the air. Siobhan’s heart sank as she realized the truth—Marcus was not just her fiancé but also a rival of Jacob.

“Is it true?” she asked Jacob, fear creeping into her voice.

He nodded gravely. “I didn’t want you to know, but it’s all connected.”

When Marcus found her again, he was different, his eyes fierce. “I won’t let anyone hurt you,” he vowed, but looking at her with Jacob, he saw something else.

“Siobhan, you deserve happiness,” he said, a bittersweet smile breaking through his anger. “If it’s with him, I’ll let you go.”

“Marcus, I—” she began, but he interrupted.

“Just be happy.”

With tears in her eyes, she turned to Jacob, who took her hand, weaving their fingers together. This was love, fierce and unyielding, even amid the chaos.

As they stepped into the Italian night, the stars twinkled above, a promise of new beginnings. The stakes were high, but for Siobhan, it was worth every moment of danger.
