You know being a normal person that was not the nature of Mia. She was unique and had a special ability. Mia could turn invisible whenever she wanted to. Just to be clear, it was not like she had a superpower but an achievement and years of practice. She could melt into a crowd, and no one would notice her. Mia always felt like an outsider or just as an audience in her own life.
With the passing of years and growing up, she learned to survive by reading books. There she could find adventures and an escape from everything and everyone. It was an infinite space to shape with her imagination. She could make the rain freeze before falling to the ground. Animals could talk and be her friends. The ocean could be like a huge blanket and cover her when feeling cold. The trees were the soldiers that would bend and protect her from the wildest winds. Rocks were strong and wild but faithful and protective from the shadows beneath.
She was so perfect at this, no one but no one could ever find her. Even in high school, no one would ever talk to her. Yes, no one. Not even her teacher. She never asked her to answer a question or something. Of course, how could she? The invisible mantle protected her as a ghost walking unseen. The invisible mantle was keeping her far from the trouble and herself. It was her place.
Summer was Mia's favorite season. She could stay for weeks without stepping outside of the door. Books were there, she did not need more. Even when ordering a pizza, she never answered the door instead asked her mom to. Her mom was the best, she never pushed her outside her shell. Being in the room and reading was okay so, a night out was her option.
But, out of the blue, something broke that deadly silence. When reading in her room for days... in the ceiling appeared a huge hole. Yes, from nothing...in the void...
A slight light came from it...
Mia thought that her planet was coming to take her. On that planet, the eternity was awaiting.
With one hand covering her eyes from the blinding light and the other reaching for the escape passage.
After this, no one ever heard anything from Mia.
She disappeared with her invisible mantle. Maybe, after all, she was gifted...for real...
