The Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project and Research for Advanced Practice Nurses
book reviews

The next two textbook reviews are 'The Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project' and 'Research for Advanced Practice Nurses'. In the first textbook to be reviewed it is mainly describing what a terminal graduate degree in nursing is all about. 'The Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project A Framework for Success' is written by three women who are Katherine Moran, Rosanne Burson, and Dianne Conrad. As said above this is a book for students who are studying for a terminal graduate degree as a Doctor of Nursing Practice. The students may already be nurse practitioners but who want to do more for their patients or clients. This is a book that covers what the Doctor of Nursing Practice is all about from the history and the why nurses become doctor practitioners.
This book covers the current trends and how this degree improves scholarship for students and for nurses in the field of advanced nursing practice. The textbook shows the how and why to forming a proposal and the materials needed in implementing a project idea. This textbook gives information on collecting data and interpreting such data then it goes on to show how to communicate the results and the writing of the paper or creating the presentations and/or portfolios. It is about the structure and learning the process and outcomes to make an impact on and in nursing and writing with a committee.
Each chapter has an overview and objectives that will be discussed. There are shaded gray blocks of text throughout the book that restate the important facts that researchers need to remember. The typeface is small but still easy to read. To me there is no controversial material as well as offensive or insensitive language used. There are charts that show some information as well as key messages and action steps that a researcher should take at a particular juncture in their projects. There are also chapter summaries at the end of each chapter. This reviewer is satisfied and may now want to do some of my own research.
________
The next review is for the textbook 'Research for Advanced Practice Nurses From Evidence to Practice' that was compiled by two editors by the names of Magdalena A. Mateo and Marquis D. Foreman. It is a second edition and each chapter covers subjects from evidence-based practice in general, the building blocks for evidence to do a study from collecting the data to some review of the statistics needed to readings of using available evidence as well as evaluating and communicating your research.
'Research for Advanced Practice Nurses' is a textbook that is well-structured and easy to read with a bold typeface and could be used for undergraduate and graduate level nursing students interested in 'doing research'. The content is accurate and easily understandable. There are 'suggested activities' at the end of each chapter so that readers can continue learning. Each of the chapters are written by a separate author sharing their particular insights. This text does differ from other research education textbooks in this way the authors are 'teaching' their chapters.
There are no controversial material or offensive language used or anything against any ethnicity and/or gender. I have read and reviewed this textbook and thought maybe I would try to devise a research topic from what I have learned from this book. There is no glossary of terms but all the information is defined in each of the articles/chapters. This is a good book to start out with when beginning to be a nurse researcher.
(Please read, comment, and tip for all would be greatly appreciated and could help me make a final decision to do my own research.)
