"Hunger Games" Book and Movie

Suzanne Collins, the renowned author behind the globally beloved "Hunger Games" series, is set to captivate audiences once again with her upcoming novel and movie installment. Entitled "Sunrise on the Reaping," this new addition to the dystopian saga is slated for publication on March 18, 2025, promising to transport readers back to the haunting world of Panem.
The fifth volume of the series delves into the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, situated 24 years before the events of the original novel. Collins, who previously left readers spellbound with "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes," is returning to explore the origins of the gripping tale that has enthralled millions worldwide.
Fans can mark their calendars for November 20, 2026, as Lionsgate announces the theatrical release of "Sunrise on the Reaping." Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film adaptation promises to bring Collins' vivid imagination to life on the big screen once again.
Drawing inspiration from the works of 18th-century Scottish philosopher David Hume, Collins weaves a narrative rich in themes of power, propaganda, and the dynamics of governance. With each page, readers will find themselves immersed in a world where the line between reality and fiction blurs, echoing the uncertainties of our modern era.
The announcement of Collins' latest installment comes as a thrilling surprise for fans who thought the series had reached its conclusion. With over 100 million copies sold worldwide and translations in numerous languages, "The Hunger Games" remains a cultural phenomenon that continues to resonate with audiences of all ages.
The cinematic adaptations, starring luminaries like Jennifer Lawrence, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Josh Hutcherson, have solidified the franchise's status as a multibillion-dollar powerhouse. Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson expresses gratitude for Collins' creative genius, emphasizing her invaluable contribution to the franchise's success.
As anticipation mounts for "Sunrise on the Reaping," fans eagerly await the next chapter in the gripping saga that has defined a generation. With Collins at the helm, the journey back to Panem promises to be an unforgettable experience for both longtime enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
If you loved Haymitch in the original Hunger Games films, a new prequel focusing on a young version of his character is coming soon. Suzanne Collins is releasing another book, The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping, coming to theaters in 2026. Read on to learn everything about the upcoming book and movie.
Unlike The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which takes place 64 years before the events of the original trilogy, The Sunrise on the Reaping will revisit Panem 24 years before The Hunger Games. It will center on the 50th Hunger Games (the Second Quarter Quell), which saw District 12’s Haymitch Abernathy crowned as the winner.
“With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few…,” Collins wrote in a statement. “The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”
Along with the upcoming book release, Lionsgate has already announced plans to bring the prequel to theaters. Francis Lawrence, the filmmaker behind the last four Hunger Games movies, is in talks to return to direct. “From the beginning, Lionsgate has been a wonderful home and partner for The Hunger Games franchise, and I’m very excited to be collaborating with Adam and the team as we bring this next story to theaters in 2026,” Collins continued.
More than 100 million copies of all four books in Collins’ Hunger Games series have been sold, while the films have grossed more than $3.3 billion at the worldwide box office. The star-studded cast has featured Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, Viola Davis, Jason Schwartzman, and Peter Dinklage.
Stay tuned for more updates as the countdown to the reaping begins anew, ushering in a thrilling new era for "The Hunger Games" franchise.
