NASA is also a key partner in the International Space Station (ISS), a joint project involving the U.S., Russia, Europe, Japan, and Canada. The ISS serves as a laboratory and living space for astronauts who conduct a wide range of scientific research. It is a unique platform for studying the effects of long-term spaceflight on the human body, understanding how microgravity affects various biological and physical processes, and testing technologies that will be crucial for future deep space missions.

Astronauts aboard the ISS have made groundbreaking discoveries in fields such as medicine, materials science, and Earth observation. NASA’s next major endeavor is the Artemis Program, which aims to return humans to the Moon by 2024 and establish a sustainable human presence on the lunar surface by the end of the decade. The first person of color and the first woman to land on the Moon will be part of Artemis, continuing NASA's legacy of inclusivity and exploration. The program will be a stepping stone to NASA's ultimate objective, which is to send humans to Mars. With the success of Artemis, NASA hopes to build a permanent lunar base that will allow for long-term scientific exploration, resource extraction, and technology testing, which will be crucial for missions to Mars and other destinations in the solar system.
