Do dreams change in appearance?
From Childhood Fantasies to Adult Realities
At different stages of life, our environment, the things we experience, and our own understanding of the world all change. These factors can influence the way our dreams look.
In childhood, our dreams are often simple and pure — like wanting to become an astronaut to explore the mysterious universe, or a painter to depict a colorful world with a brush. At that stage, dreams are usually full of innocence and imagination, driven by our curiosity and love for new things.
As we grow older and start school, we are exposed to broader knowledge and information. Our dreams may become more specific and practical. We might aim to get into a good university, choose a promising major, and lay a foundation for future career development. At this stage, our dreams are often influenced by academic performance, the expectations of teachers and parents, and mainstream societal values.
When we enter society and begin to face the pressures and challenges of real life, our dreams may change once again. Some people may strive for a stable job and a warm family — dreams that are more closely tied to everyday life. Others may discover new interests or potential through work and adjust their dreams accordingly, perhaps pursuing higher career achievements or entrepreneurial goals.
Major life events — such as the loss of a loved one or recovering from a serious illness — can also lead people to reexamine their lives, which may shift their dreams as well. Some may move away from chasing material wealth to seeking spiritual fulfillment, or devote themselves to public service and giving back to society.
