On July 13th, a group of children was flying kites in the deserted field near the SC when they passed by an abandoned well. They smelled a strong foul odor emanating from the well. Curious and adventurous, the children began to speculate what could be inside the well that caused such a repugnant smell.
In front of the admiring eyes of the younger children, Dai, the oldest child and the leader of the group, approached the well, pinched his nose, and peered inside to investigate. He then confidently returned and announced that all their speculations were wrong; there was nothing special inside except for some clothes and a little trash at the bottom of the well.
The children were puzzled. If there were only clothes, how could it smell so bad? They thought Dai was just boasting, so they all went to the well to see for themselves.
Seeing that his friends didn't believe him, Dai secretly picked up a large brick and quietly moved behind the group. Suddenly, he threw the brick down the well to scare them.
There was a loud splash, and water splattered everywhere, making the children jump in fright. Dai chuckled triumphantly.
But his laughter was short-lived. After the brick was thrown down the well, a corpse surfaced, wearing the same clothes Dai had seen earlier.
Horrified at the sight of the newly revealed corpse, the children panicked and ran back to the village, screaming for help. And Dai, the brave leader in front of his friends, was also the first to run back.
Alone in his room, Viet sat holding a book, but his mind was blank, with not a single word entering his head. For weeks, his girlfriend had mysteriously disappeared after going back to her hometown for the summer with her family. Despite several trips to the remote mountainous area where his girlfriend and her family lived, to inquire about her whereabouts with former colleagues and to investigate on his own, there was no sign of her.
Anxious, Viet had requested to be transferred there for work, hoping it would facilitate his search for his missing girlfriend. The leaders were very understanding and agreed to assign him to DB for a while. With just a few days left before completing the paperwork, Viet was eager to embark on his new assignment. Taking advantage of his days off, he pieced together the information he had received from his former colleagues and his own investigations while wandering the streets.
However, due to the scarcity of information, Viet still felt like he was lost in a maze of reasoning. Therefore, even though he held a book, the words seemed to be teasing him, dancing around and eluding his grasp.
Suddenly, Viet noticed many shadowy figures moving swiftly past the window, a reflex of someone in his line of work, indicating that something had happened. Seeing Linh, the girl from the forensic team, darting past, Viet hurriedly ran out, calling out:
"Linh! What's going on?"
Linh replied hastily:
"A villager just called to report a dead body in the abandoned well in the field, sir. I and the team have to go there. You stay here, and I'll keep you informed."
Viet frowned:
"Why are you asking me to stay? We're on the same team"
Then Viet remembered that he had requested to be transferred elsewhere for a while. Seeing Linh teasing him,
Viet blushed and said:
"Even though I haven't left yet, and I still haven't completed the procedures, even if I go, it will only be for a short time."
Linh teased him:
"So I’m still on the same team with the lovesick policeman, huh? Well, I asked Uncle X, he said you could rest. No one dares to stand in the way of the team leader"
Viet nodded and quickly ran back to the last room in the row, saying:
"Uncle, please let me go with the team"
A man about 55-60 years old looked up and smiled:
"So, the one who was stubborn about being transferred to DB?"
Viet's squint made him embarrassed, he explained:
"I'm also resting for a few days, and there are also our teammates deployed there. I still receive daily updates from them. With such a serious incident happening here, how can I just sit still?"
X nodded gently
"I know you can't sit still, but hurry, or you'll be left behind"
Viet stood up straight, his hand raised to his forehead
"Yes sir."
