Review

This was a fun, fast listen! The storyline is simple but entertaining. And there were truly comedic moments, which I enjoyed — especially as I was doing some chores while listening. The "prince cursed as a frog" angle was also pretty unique, or at least I haven't read anything like it before. Great narrator, too!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Free Audiobooks on Kobo

As I was looking this book up on Kobo for the word count (Kobo has that nice little feature), I realized it was free on there — and that there are more! Here are two I just added to my TBR and aren't AI narrated.

The Magic Factory (Oliver Blue and the School for Seers—Book One) by Morgan Rice

The story of 11 year old Oliver Blue, a boy unloved by his hateful family. Oliver knows he is different, and senses that he holds powers that others do not. Obsessed with inventions, Oliver is determined to escape his horrible life and make his mark on the world.

When Oliver is moved to yet another awful house he is put into in a new sixth grade, one even more terrifying than the last. He is bullied and excluded, and sees no way out. But when he stumbles across an abandoned invention factory, he wonders if his dreams might be about to come true.

Who is the mysterious old inventor hiding in the factory?

What is his secret invention?

And will Oliver end up transported back in time, to 1944, to a magical school for kids with powers to rival his own?

Straw into Gold (A Rumpelstiltskin Faerie Tale Retelling) by Carol Beth Anderson

Years ago, Pel fell for a gorgeous Faerie . . . and enslaved herself to him in the process. Now, she's making the best of it by using borrowed Fae magic to render herself invisible and steal from the wealthy at court.

While she's there, a handsome human man named Cole is arrested when his father claims he can spin straw into gold. Intrigued, Pel follows Cole into his cell. When she learns he has no such talent, she offers to help, if he'll pay for her assistance.

But a little help isn't enough. The king demands he spin more and more straw into gold. Pel has grown attached to Cole's generous heart and wants to truly protect him. But to do so, she'll have to ask him for his firstborn.

If she does that, Cole will never trust her again.

And if she doesn't . . . the king will take his life.

Is it possible to find both love and freedom?

All things end, and all must die.

But death is not always the end.

When Geiravor Lokisdottir was stripped of her name and cast out of Asgard, torn from her family and the life she had known, she thought she’d lost it all. But in the shadows of Niflheim she discovers the path to her destiny, and what it truly means to be queen.

This is a prequel short story to THE PROPHECIES OF RAGNAROK trilogy by Meri Benson and Marie Sinadjan, and a retelling of the myths involving Hel, the Norse goddess of death and the queen of the underworld.
