The book that changed my life the most was Anne of Green Gable by Lucy Maud Montgomery. This book gave me the courage to be me and helped shape me into the writer I am today. Anne, with an E, helped me understand that there was life after mortal embarrassment. This book is one I encouraged both my children to read.

Before I read Anne of Green Gables, I was just a kid from a split family. I was shuttled between my parents and lacked confidence in my identity. I was a child with a lost personality. I didn’t know how to act with either of my parents half the time. In the other half, I was busy humiliating myself. After Anne, with an E, I learned that being myself was the only way to learn and grow to adulthood and that no matter what I said or did, my parents would always love me.

Anne’s love of reading and books was very similar to my love of reading and books. My enthusiasm for reading was equal to Anne’s. When Anne discussed writing and would seem to be talking from a faraway place, lost in her imaginings, I wanted to be just like her. Reading this helped me realize that, like Anne, I wanted to entertain others with my writings someday. Plus, like her, when I read, I could get lost in the pages of a book, and when I was down, it was like I was waking from a beautiful dream.

Each time Anne would do something rash and cause herself pain and mortal embarrassment, it reminded me that we all make mistakes. I realized that there was life after performing these actions. I learned through her that we all make mistakes; therefore, there was no shame in them.

I enjoyed this book and its series so much that I encouraged my daughters to read them. I sat and watched each movie with my girls. The best movie series is Anne of Green Gables with Megan Follows.

If you never read or watched The Green Gables Saga, you really should. You don’t know what you are missing. The antics of Anne with an E will have you laughing so hard. Your heart would have to be made of stone not to sympathize with Anne in her many misadventures. Once you read it, it’ll also become a classic for you.

I’m glad you found your feet and confidence!!😊 While I haven’t read the books. Mum had the movies playing (taped off TV) ALL the time while I was growing up so we liked it! Lost count of how many viewings! 😁

  • I really love how Anne inspired you to become who you are! So wonderful!
